Rectify the attack
Despite the victory on the opening day, the performance of the U23 Vietnam team has not satisfied the fans. Competing with U23 Cambodia is an opportunity for U23 Vietnam to adjust their attacking system and improve their scoring.
U23 Vietnam temporarily leads Group B with 3 points. The defending champion's 3-4-1-2 attack has not been effective, as experienced strikers such as Quoc Viet, Dinh Bac... have not been able to score despite facing U23 Laos - a team considered weaker on the opening day of the tournament.

In the victory over U23 Laos, coach Kim Sang-sik used a "virtual" striker in the attack. Accordingly, the striker duo Quoc Viet - Dinh Bac often swapped positions with the midfielders to stretch the opponent's defense and escape pressing. This tactical strategy showed flexibility when attacking and U23 Vietnam exploited it to penetrate the defense of U23 Laos.
However, the accuracy of the shots of coach Kim Sang-sik's players is not high. Statistics of the whole match show that U23 Vietnam fired 20 shots but only 8 times hit the target, scoring 3 goals. Of which, the double goal against U23 Laos belonged to center back Nguyen Hieu Minh.
The attacking power of U23 Vietnam lies on the left wing. In the victory over U23 Laos, Phi Hoang and Nhat Minh showed their aggressiveness with situations of sprinting past people, passing long balls and crossing the ball accurately. Left-sided center-back Nhat Minh also assisted Van Khang to score, opening the score of the match.
Mr. Kim said that the first match in a tournament is always difficult. After the victory over U23 Laos, Coach Kim Sang-sik also analyzed the match video, helping the players gain experience and improve their skills.
Create opportunities for new recruits
U23 Vietnam fielded their strongest starting lineup in the win over U23 Laos. Coach Kim Sang-sik is likely to continue using these players in the match against U23 Cambodia.

The three central defenders are stable and playing well, but the two front lines are still disjointed and lack cohesion when developing the ball from home. The bright spot is that U23 Vietnam takes advantage of set pieces to score decisive goals in the match.
The result of the match with U23 Cambodia will accurately assess the strength of the U23 Vietnam players. In the first match of the group stage, U23 Cambodia showed that they were stronger than U23 Laos in terms of ball control and finishing ability.
Coach Kim Sang-sik took advantage of the opening match to test the U23 Vietnam attack, when he sent Viktor Le, Ngoc My, and Cong Phuong in turn in the second half. The appearance of the new players promises to help U23 Vietnam play more diversely and effectively.
Player Nguyen Cong Phuong said: "I haven't had much playing time so I haven't been able to show my best form. I always try my best in every training session to be ready when given the opportunity. If I am given the opportunity to play in the next match, I will try my best to contribute 100% to the team."
U23 Vietnam only needs 1 more point to win a ticket to the semi-finals as the top team in Group B. However, the goal of coach Kim and his team is to win against U23 Cambodia and preserve their strength for the semi-finals.
