Artificial Intelligence (AI) is increasingly applied due to its great benefits. In recent years, the application of AI in Vietnamese journalism has begun to enter a more substantial stage.
Digital transformation to not be left behind

According to Master Nguyen Van Hao, Institute of Journalism and Communication, Academy of Journalism and Communication, "the biggest difficulty for a newsroom to transform digitally is not in technology, but in thinking.
Modernization is not just about buying software, building a studio or adding social media accounts. It requires a change in journalism culture, from the editorial process, how to evaluate effectiveness, to being willing to experiment with new technology and trends, to creating innovative content and accepting failure.
Without change from leadership to individual reporters, no matter how much money is invested, it will be difficult to have sustainable results."
Content creation is no longer a choice; it is a must if you want to retain readers today, especially Gen Z and Gen Alpha, who consume information very quickly, tend to "surf but not read", "watch but not search".
Innovation is not just about writing more compelling headlines or making short videos , but also about transforming press information into multiple formats that suit readers' cross-platform consumption habits.
For example, an investigative article can be told as a podcast; a news story can be animated or animated infographic; a social and cultural article can integrate interactive data to let readers "participate" in the story.
The bottom line is that journalism is not just about reporting, but also about “designing information experiences” for readers. To do that, journalists need to think like storytellers and be flexible like creators. Technology enables it, but it is the spirit of innovation that makes the difference.

As a technology solution provider, Mr. Bui Cong Duyen, Product Director of ONECMS Converged Newsroom, NEKO Technology Joint Stock Company, commented: "As content on social networking platforms becomes increasingly diverse, newsrooms are required to have powerful enough tools to organize unified content, ensure speed, strict press censorship process, quality of work and business efficiency, the converged newsroom model is one of the keys to decode that need."
Journalists need to consider AI as a powerful assistant
According to Mr. Nguyen Viet Hung - CEO of Eduto Asia, a company that has been working in the AI field in Vietnam for 8 years, there are 3 major impacts that AI has created in the field of press and communication: search, conversion, and transmission.
Today, AI can help us search and synthesize information quickly, even "observe" social networks to help us quickly detect emerging issues or content trends, thereby making topic selection more convenient.
From an article to a voiceover, from a voiceover to a video, podcasts are becoming more popular than ever. With just a quality source of articles, converting content into short news, short videos, long videos or compilation videos can now happen in seconds, helping to diversify the channels of distributing content and news.
With the power of automation, after creating different content formats, AI also helps us distribute content, post and continuously monitor reader reactions, from the number of views to comments and reader emotions.
"With strong development, people who own AI agents can automate work at a high level, thereby increasing the ability to produce quality content. In my opinion, expertise and quality of information sources are still the most important things in the field of media and journalism.
AI will help authors free themselves from repetitive tasks, so they have more time to exploit information," Mr. Nguyen Viet Hung affirmed.

Although it brings great value, AI is not a tool to be abused. "It is necessary to maintain the core values of journalism, which are critical thinking, professional ethics and courage in the face of information in the digital age; if AI is used too much, journalists will gradually lose their critical thinking.
"Use AI to improve work efficiency, but still maintain the "human" quality in each digital journalism work," Mr. Hao commented.
A newsroom today competes not only on content, but also on speed of news production, presentation of engaging multimedia content, storytelling in multiple storytelling formats, and multi-channel distribution capabilities.
The current trend of applying AI not only helps speed up the content production process, but also uses multi-platform communication to distribute content to the right people, at the right time.
