Based on Vietnam's consistent policy and strong commitment, efforts and achievements in protecting and promoting human rights as well as increasing participation and contributions to multilateral forums, Vietnam is assuming the position of a member of the UNHRC for the 2023-2025 term with many imprints and initiatives in the spirit of respect and understanding, dialogue and cooperation for all human rights for all people in 8 priority areas, which are recognized and highly appreciated by the international community.

"In the first two years of the 2023-2025 term, Vietnam has also actively fulfilled its membership responsibilities, including participating in the Universal Periodic Review (UPR) cycle IV and welcoming the United Nations Special Rapporteur on the right to development to visit Vietnam with very positive results," the Foreign Ministry spokesperson stated. "And those are extremely important foundations for Vietnam to run for membership of the United Nations Human Rights Council for the 2026-2028 term."

Ms. Pham Thu Hang also emphasized that Vietnam's candidacy demonstrates the continuation of its positive contributions, strong commitment, and willingness to contribute to the common efforts of the international community. Vietnam believes that with its achievements, countries will continue to support Vietnam's candidacy for the UNHRC in the upcoming term.

"We pledge to promote Vietnam's active, constructive and responsible role in realizing the common goals of the United Nations Human Rights Council, ensuring better and better the rights enjoyed by people around the world," the Foreign Ministry spokesman affirmed.
