Vietnam's term as a member of the United Nations Human Rights Council for 2026-2028 will officially begin on January 1, 2026.
Regarding Vietnam's footprint in the 2023-2025 term of membership of the United Nations Human Rights Council; commitments and foreign communication orientations for the 2026-2028 term, Mr. Nguyen Vu Minh, Deputy Director of the Department of International Organizations, Ministry of Foreign Affairs , said that Vietnam's election to the United Nations Human Rights Council for the 2026-2028 term demonstrates the international community's recognition of the country's new position and strength and our country's willingness to contribute more to solving common world problems; the international community's objective and positive assessment of Vietnam's commitments, efforts and achievements in promoting and protecting human rights.
At the same time, this result was also achieved thanks to the achievements in multilateral foreign affairs of our Party and State in the spirit of Resolution No. 59-NQ/TW dated January 24, 2025 of the Politburo on international integration in the new situation; Directive No. 25-CT/TW dated August 8, 2018 of the Secretariat on promoting and elevating multilateral foreign affairs to 2030; Conclusion No. 125-KL/TW of the Secretariat on strengthening the implementation of Directive No. 25-CT/TW on promoting and elevating multilateral foreign affairs to 2030.
According to Mr. Nguyen Vu Minh, the reason for success is thanks to the Party's correct and important policies and guidelines, and great achievements in economic and social development.
Senior leaders at all levels have directly directed and participated in important activities at the Human Rights Council and campaigned for our re-election to the Human Rights Council for the 2026-2028 term.
During the 2023-2025 term of the Human Rights Council, we have built the image of Vietnam as a responsible and constructive member with many initiatives and effective contributions to common work, gaining high trust from other countries.
Vietnam has seriously implemented its commitments and obligations under international treaties on human rights, by implementing the approved Master Plan on the Protection and Promotion of Human Rights, completing the fourth cycle of the Universal Periodic Review (UPR), welcoming the Special Rapporteur on the Right to Development to visit Vietnam, and completing and holding constructive dialogues with the Convention Committees on national reports on the implementation of a number of human rights conventions to which Vietnam is a member.
Mobilization work was deployed early, conducted methodically and seriously, linking bilateral cooperation capabilities with mutual support at multilateral forums.
Many friendly countries in the world have expressed their great respect for Vietnam's seriousness and commitment, and highly appreciated its openness and attention to other countries' concerns. At the same time, we always closely follow the internal and external information and propaganda work on human rights, refuting the arguments of hostile forces that distort the human rights situation in Vietnam...
In its third term as a member of the United Nations Human Rights Council, Vietnam continues to promote eight priority areas: enhancing the effectiveness of the Human Rights Council; protecting human rights in the context of climate change; combating violence and discrimination, protecting vulnerable groups; promoting gender equality; protecting human rights in the digital age; promoting the right to health; the right to work; the right to education and human rights education.
Vietnam will continue to contribute to the international community's joint efforts, addressing common concerns on human rights in the spirit of "Respect and understanding - Dialogue and cooperation - All human rights for all"./.
