(HNMO) - Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Pham Thu Hang affirmed that the legitimate rights and interests of coastal countries, including Vietnam, must be respected.

On June 10, in response to a reporter's question asking for comment on the statement of the Spokesperson of the Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs on June 6, 2023 regarding the activities of the Chinese survey ship group Xiangyanghong 10, Spokesperson of the Vietnamese Ministry of Foreign Affairs Pham Thu Hang affirmed:

As has been repeatedly affirmed, Vietnam has sufficient legal basis and historical evidence to assert its sovereignty over the Truong Sa and Hoang Sa archipelagos.

The legal status of the Spratly Islands as well as the entities of this archipelago have been clearly defined under the 1982 United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea.

Sovereignty, sovereign rights and jurisdiction over a country's maritime zones established in accordance with the 1982 United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea as well as the legitimate and legal rights and interests of coastal countries, including Vietnam, must be respected.

This is a demonstration of the sense of responsibility, constructiveness and practical contribution of the countries involved to peace, stability, cooperation and rule of law in the region, including the East Sea.
