Within the framework of the session, an international seminar entitled "Integrating Human Rights Education into the Education System: Sharing Experiences and Practical Lessons" was held. The event was co-sponsored by Vietnam, the Philippines, Australia, and Italy.
In addition to this event, Vietnam chaired the development and presentation of the Joint Statement on Promoting the Human Right to Immunization, which received widespread support from many countries, with 53 countries from all continents sponsoring it to date. The Joint Statement emphasizes that immunization is an important part of the right to optimal health, playing an essential role in primary healthcare and achieving universal health coverage in line with the Sustainable Development Goals and the 2030 Agenda.
During the session, the Vietnamese delegation actively participated in numerous sessions and discussions on various topics such as promoting and protecting economic, social, and cultural rights in the context of addressing inequality; the rights of the elderly; climate change; clean water and sanitation; and farmers' rights. In their speeches, the Vietnamese delegation clearly stated its policy on promoting and protecting the human rights of all citizens; shared measures that Vietnam has implemented to promote and protect the rights of vulnerable groups; and affirmed the need to resolve political divisions and differences and promote cooperation and build trust through dialogue and collaboration. Along with other ASEAN countries, the Vietnamese delegation also made several joint statements on ASEAN-related issues of common interest and concern, such as technical cooperation and capacity building, the right to development, and the UPR mechanism.
Throughout the session, the Vietnamese delegation actively engaged in contact, exchange, and consultation with delegations from other countries, participated in the development of documents, and co-sponsored many initiatives in the spirit of dialogue and cooperation. This demonstrated Vietnam's consistent views, policies, and achievements in promoting and protecting human rights, contributing to ensuring that the activities of the UN Human Rights Council are in accordance with the fundamental principles of international law and the UN Charter.
The active participation of the Vietnamese delegation at the 57th session of the UN Human Rights Council, notably the adoption of the results of the Universal Periodic Review (UPR) cycle IV, the proposal of two initiatives to develop a Joint Statement and the organization of an international roundtable discussion, the dialogue with the Special Rapporteur on the right to development mentioned above, as well as co-sponsoring many initiatives, clearly demonstrated Vietnam's efforts and responsibility in its second year as a member of the UN Human Rights Council for the 2023-2025 term.
