Martial arts continue to prove themselves a "gold mine" for Vietnamese sports at each SEA Games. On the afternoon of December 11th, Karate and MMA (mixed martial arts) consecutively brought home 3 gold medals. Notably, as the first Vietnamese fighter to win a SEA Games gold medal in MMA, Quang Van Minh was awarded 200 million VND by the Vietnam MMA Federation.

Shortly afterwards, Taekwondo also brought good news when fighter Nguyen Hong Trong won 2-1 against his Indonesian opponent in the men's 48 kg final. Meanwhile, in Ju-jitsu, Vietnam added another gold medal thanks to the victory of fighter Dang Dinh Tung in the 69 kg final.
Gymnastics had its first day of competition at the 33rd SEA Games, and Vietnamese sports managed to win two gold medals: one in the pommel horse event thanks to athlete Dang Ngoc Xuan Thien, and the other in the rings event thanks to athlete Nguyen Van Khanh Phong.

Meanwhile, in the women's 1,500m race, the top two positions were both taken by Vietnamese athletes, Bui Thi Ngan and Nguyen Khanh Linh. In the men's triple jump, Ho Trong Manh Hung also won the gold medal after his sixth jump with a performance of 16.33 meters.
Not to be outdone by their athletics counterparts, Vietnamese swimmers also achieved a "double gold" victory in the swimming competition today. Specifically, athlete Pham Thanh Bao finished first in the men's 100m breaststroke event with a time of 1'01''43.
Following closely behind, the Vietnamese men's 4x200m freestyle relay team also excelled, finishing first with a time of 7 minutes 18 seconds 67, thus bringing home Vietnam's 11th gold medal of the day.
With today's performance, Vietnamese sports are ranked second on the overall medal table, behind only the host country Thailand.

The Vietnam U22 team and the Vietnam women's team received huge bonuses.
On December 11th, the Vietnam U22 team secured a 2-0 victory against the Malaysia U22 team, thus advancing to the semi-finals of the SEA Games 33. Following this achievement, the Vietnam Football Federation awarded the Vietnam U22 team a bonus of 600 million VND.*Nguyen Dinh Bac was voted the Man of the Match. This is the second time at the SEA Games 33 that the striker from Hanoi Police FC has had this honor.
*Also on December 11th, the Vietnamese women's national team secured a victory with the same score against the Myanmar women's national team to advance to the semi-finals. Immediately after the match, the President of the Vietnam Football Federation, Tran Quoc Tuan, personally met with and congratulated the entire team, and also awarded the Vietnamese women's national team 700 million VND.
