Vinmec pioneers in bringing international standard technology to the treatment of urticaria

Vinmec Times City International General Hospital (Hanoi) is the first institution in Vietnam to achieve UCARE certification, affirming its superior expertise in the diagnosis, treatment, and management of urticaria (hives) according to the international GA2LEN standard.

Applying advanced technology to control allergies and autoimmune diseases.

Currently, the post-Covid-19 pandemic immune system disruption is making chronic diseases increasingly complex and difficult to control. To effectively diagnose and treat chronic diseases, healthcare facilities must focus on developing the field of clinical allergy and immunology.

In Vietnam, the Vinmec Institute of Immunology - VinUni is a leader in applying modern technology for analyzing and evaluating immunological diseases. This includes a flexible molecular allergen diagnostic system capable of performing diverse tests to diagnose both allergic and autoimmune diseases, providing accurate and rapid results.

Vinmec boasts the most advanced technology in Vietnam, along with a team of leading experts and doctors.

In addition to possessing the most modern technology in Vietnam, Vinmec also brings together a team of leading doctors and experts from Penn State University (USA) and Macquarie University (Australia), with extensive expertise and practical experience in advanced healthcare systems worldwide in the treatment of chronic diseases. Particularly, with its strengths in a multidisciplinary care model covering areas such as orthopedics, cardiology, oncology, gastroenterology, neurology, infectious diseases, etc., Vinmec consistently provides comprehensive and effective treatment solutions for patients.

One of the achievements resulting from the application of advanced technology, combined with the expertise and experience of the medical team, is the successful control of urticaria – a common disease that significantly affects the health and quality of life of patients.

“In Vietnam, many people with acute and chronic urticaria self-medicate with corticosteroids inappropriately or use herbal remedies of unknown origin, which worsens the condition, makes it difficult to control and treat effectively, and increases costs. Accurate diagnosis based on appropriate tests and adherence to treatment protocols will improve treatment effectiveness, reduce complications and side effects from medication or uncontrolled disease. We always prioritize cost-effective treatment approaches that deliver the fastest results, helping patients reduce the burden of illness,” said Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nguyen Van Dinh, Director of the Center of Excellence (CoE) in Clinical Allergy and Immunology, Head of Internal Medicine Department, Vinmec Times City Hospital, and Deputy Director of the Vinmec-VinUni Institute of Immunology Research.

The patient's urticaria control points were directly measured and carefully assessed by the doctor after 4 weeks.

At Vinmec, urticaria patients not only receive effective treatment but also undergo thorough screening for comorbidities, such as autoimmune diseases and allergies, which are potential factors that can affect treatment outcomes. This ensures a comprehensive, appropriate, and optimal treatment plan. After 4 weeks of treatment, effectiveness is assessed through urticaria control scores and quality of life scores, which are directly managed and measured by doctors for each patient.

UCARE – A guarantee of an “international standard hospital”

In Vietnam, the Clinical Allergy and Immunology Center at Vinmec Times City International General Hospital is currently the only facility to have achieved UCARE certification.

This certification demonstrates the superior treatment efficacy in both adults and children, with a disease control rate of up to 76%, improved quality of life for over 90% of chronic urticaria patients, and normalized quality of life for 50-70% of patients. These results were achieved after 4 weeks of treatment using examination and disease management procedures according to international standards from EAACI, GA2LEN, EuroGuiderm, and APAA.

Vinmec Times City is currently the third healthcare facility in Southeast Asia to be certified as having completed the assessment based on UCARE's 32 rigorous criteria.

The Clinical Allergy and Immunology Center at Vinmec Times City International General Hospital is currently the only facility to have achieved UCARE certification.

UCARE is an international certification awarded by GA2LEN – the European Global Allergy and Asthma Network. To achieve this certification, treatment centers must meet 32 rigorous criteria, including professional standards, ability to monitor disease progression, disease control, use of differential diagnosis algorithms, identification of comorbidities and underlying causes of the disease, etc.

In addition, the center needs to meet hospital quality management requirements and the ability to coordinate with other specialties in treating comorbidities; the capacity for accurate differential diagnosis and the performance of extensive diagnostic tests.

Achieving UCARE certification and joining the international network for urticaria treatment will provide Vinmec with strong resources, enhancing the effectiveness of treatment for acute and chronic urticaria. Patients can rest assured that they will receive diagnosis, treatment, and management according to international standards, meeting all the stringent criteria of UCARE certification. This is a significant step forward in providing internationally standardized healthcare services in Vietnam, bringing tangible benefits to the community of chronic urticaria patients.
