Son Luong commune improves the quality of cultural life

About Son Luong commune, our first impression was the peaceful countryside space, spacious roads, and friendly people.

Over the years, Son Luong commune has promoted the "All People Unite to Build a Culturally Rich Life" movement, linked with building new rural areas and preserving the cultural identity of ethnic groups. Thanks to this synchronized approach, the quality of cultural life for the people has continuously improved, contributing to creating a new and increasingly modernized look for the countryside.

Upon arriving in Son Luong commune, our first impression was of a peaceful rural atmosphere, well-maintained roads, and friendly people. Every afternoon, a large number of people gather at the village cultural centers for cultural and sports activities. The elderly relax and chat; young and middle-aged people play volleyball and badminton; women dance folk dances, and children play in front of the cultural center.

Following the merger of the communes of Son Luong, Nam Muoi, Sung Do, and Suoi Quyen, the new Son Luong commune has 23 villages and hamlets, with over 2,200 households and more than 12,000 inhabitants, over 97% of whom are ethnic minorities.

Given the vast geographical area, numerous villages located far from the center, and challenging economic conditions, the Steering Committee for the "All People Unite to Build a Culturally Rich Life" movement in the commune has intensified its propaganda efforts through the public address system, village meetings, and branch meetings to help people understand the meaning, rights, and responsibilities of participating in building a culturally rich life.

In addition to village meetings and seminars, the commune also utilizes its public address system for daily propaganda; officials and Party members go to each household to encourage and explain the meaning, rights, and responsibilities of participating in the movement.

In addition, the commune actively propagates and widely disseminates among the people the criteria for recognizing culturally exemplary families. The criteria for building culturally exemplary families are incorporated into village regulations and conventions to ensure their serious implementation by the people. At the same time, the criteria for building culturally exemplary families are linked to the content of various movements such as: "Building a prosperous, equal, progressive, and happy family," "Families with 5 no's and 3 clean's," and implementing civilized lifestyles in weddings, funerals, and festivals...

The commune encourages residential areas to establish 14 arts and sports clubs. Every year, it regularly organizes cultural and sports exchange competitions at the commune level and encourages villages to organize cultural and sports exchange programs for residents to participate in.

Focusing on improving the system of cultural and sports facilities from the commune to the village level, currently 100% of villages and hamlets in the commune have cultural centers and sports areas. The system of playgrounds, training grounds, and cultural and sports facilities is well managed and utilized effectively, basically meeting the needs of local people for meetings, entertainment, and activities; 28% of the population and 22% of households participate in regular physical exercise and sports.

Thanks to practical approaches, over 75% of households in the commune have now achieved the title of "Culturally Advanced Family"; over 60% of villages have been recognized as "Culturally Advanced Villages"; and over 80% of agencies, units, and schools have met cultural standards. Village regulations and customs have been reviewed, supplemented, and integrated with content on environmental protection, preservation of ethnic identity, and prevention of social evils.

Mr. Lo Van May (from Ban Lam village) shared: “Previously, weddings and funerals were cumbersome and expensive. Now, people do them more simply and civilly. The village roads are clean, and there is no longer indiscriminate littering. Each family is conscious of preserving the landscape and the shared way of life.”

The movement to build a cultured way of life in Son Luong commune has been implemented in parallel with economic development. The commune has encouraged people to actively transform the structure of crops and livestock, and apply science and technology to improve productivity and product quality. Models of tea and cinnamon cultivation, concentrated livestock farming, and integrated garden-pond-livestock farming have been widely replicated. As a result, the average per capita income of the commune is expected to reach over 30 million VND/year in 2025, and the poverty rate will decrease from 75% in 2021 to 18.05% in 2025.

During the period 2025-2030, Son Luong commune will continue to improve the quality of the "Cultural Family" and "Cultural Village" titles; striving for 100% of villages to meet the "Cultural Village" standard; and 100% of agencies and units to meet cultural standards. It will continue to invest in and upgrade grassroots cultural facilities, expand sports fields, etc., attracting a large number of people to participate. This will contribute to improving health and strengthening solidarity within the community.
