The People's Committee of Khanh Hoa province has just issued a decision approving the revised master plan for Dien Khanh town until 2040.
Dien Khanh Ancient Citadel is the tourism center of the district.
Accordingly, the projected urban population by 2040 is approximately 250,000 people; the total urban construction land area is approximately 11,975.9 hectares (an average of about 479 m²/person); of which residential land is approximately 1,689.7 hectares (an average of about 78.7 m²/person).
The urban development plan includes seven zones. Of these, the area north of the Cai River, covering approximately 11,451.5 hectares with an estimated population of 8,900 people, is designated as a space for developing tourism services linked to cultural, historical, and agricultural ecological values.

Orientation for developing experiential ecotourism: adventure tourism such as mountain climbing, sightseeing and experiencing the landscape along the Cai River, rural excursions, visits to gardens and traditional craft villages.
Upgrading, expanding, and developing tourism services associated with the natural environment of Am Chua Lake area, especially those close to the Am Chua national cultural and historical site, is envisioned as the main driving force for the development of trade, services, and tourism for the entire urban area.
Using the ancient citadel of Dien Khanh as the central point to create a ripple effect to other tourist areas, and simultaneously arranging a transportation system connecting these tourist areas to create a distinctive tourist route for Dien Khanh district, closely linked to the tourism development orientation of Nha Trang city and surrounding areas.
Linking tourist destinations

According to travel companies, Dien Khanh district has many famous historical sites and landmarks, and is relatively close to Nha Trang city. However, these destinations are scattered and lack investment, so they need to be connected to form tours exploring history and cultural and spiritual tourism.
"Nha Trang has strengths in marine and island products, but for cruise ship tourists and middle-aged and older travelers, eco-tourism and rural tourism products are very attractive. Dien Khanh district has all the natural conditions and geographical location to develop these products; the important thing is to invest professionally, link destinations, and promote them," suggested Mr. Bui Minh Thang, director of Phuong Thang Tourism and Trade Service Co., Ltd.
Ms. Nguyen Thi Le Thanh, Director of the Khanh Hoa Department of Tourism, said that in the province's tourism development strategy, Dien Khanh district will be a satellite of Nha Trang tourism. To develop, the district must create a chain of interconnected tourism product values within its area to offer to tourists.
To achieve this, it is necessary to mobilize the participation of potential and dedicated tourism businesses in the tourism sector, and to consider establishing a Dien Khanh tourism branch (under the Nha Trang - Khanh Hoa Tourism Association).
According to the Dien Khanh District People's Committee's Tourism and Trade Development Program from 2018 to 2020 and beyond, by 2025 the district aims to attract approximately 700,000 to 1 million tourists, generating revenue of around 50 billion VND. The number of tourist accommodation rooms is targeted at 200 to 300. The average annual growth rate for tourist numbers is projected at 15-20%, with international tourists increasing by 5-7%.
