ANTD.VN - The exemption period for registration fees for electric cars has been extended by two years, until February 28, 2027, according to a resolution recently issued by the Government .
The government has just issued Decree No. 51/2015/ND-CP dated March 1, 2025, amending and supplementing Decree No. 10/2022/ND-CP regulating registration fees.
Accordingly, the Government has agreed to extend the exemption from all registration fees for battery-powered electric vehicles for another two years, until February 28, 2027.
Electric cars are exempt from registration fees for an additional two years. |
According to calculations by the Ministry of Finance , extending the vehicle registration fee exemption for electric vehicles for another two years could result in a revenue loss of approximately 4,800 billion VND per year for the state budget.
Over the past three years, the budget revenue reduction due to the exemption of registration fees for electric cars has been nearly 8,420 billion VND. This is because the number of battery-powered electric cars has increased rapidly, from an average of over 400 cars registered with registration fees per month in 2022 to over 6,600 cars in 2024.
Registration fees are one of many costs owners must pay to get a car on the road. This fee incentive for electric vehicles is one way to encourage people to prioritize environmentally friendly car models.
Currently, vehicle registration fees for passenger cars are calculated as a percentage of the vehicle type and vary by locality.
For example, the initial registration fee for passenger cars in Hanoi , Quang Ninh, and Hai Phong is 12% of the vehicle's value; in Ho Chi Minh City it's 10%, and in Ha Tinh 11%... For pickup trucks, the registration fee is 60% of the initial fee for passenger cars. From the second payment onwards, the fee is 2% and is applied uniformly nationwide.
