On the morning of September 23, Lam Dong Provincial People's Court - Branch 1 held the first instance trial of the case that occurred between Tuan An Group and Binh Thuan Electricity Company, causing damage of more than 200 billion VND.
The court brought to trial 26 defendants including: Huynh Tuan An (Chairman of the Board of Directors, General Director of Tuan An Group); Mr. Tran Ngoc Linh, Nguyen Thanh Ngon (former Director of Binh Thuan Power Company) along with 23 other defendants who are former officials and employees of Binh Thuan Power Company, Tuan An Group and 11 invoice trading companies.
The trial will try the following crimes: Bribery, bribery acceptance, violation of bidding regulations, violation of accounting regulations, and illegal printing, issuance, and trading of invoices and documents for payment to the State budget, causing serious consequences. The trial is scheduled to last for 4 days, from September 23 to 26.
From 2017 to 2023, Huynh Tuan An agreed with two former Directors of Binh Thuan Electricity Company to create conditions for Tuan An's company to win bids and pay money outside the contract to Binh Thuan Electricity Company.
Accordingly, the two former directors directed their subordinates to collude with employees of Tuan An Group to violate bidding regulations to win 25 packages to supply materials and equipment to Binh Thuan Power Company, causing damage to state assets of more than VND49 billion. According to the agreement, An directed the bribery of more than VND9 billion to the defendants at Binh Thuan Power Company.
To conceal actual profits, legitimize price increases, withdraw money to pay outside of contracts and reduce the amount of tax payable, Huynh Tuan An created and directed companies in the Group to use two accounting systems; at the same time, he bought 1,163 fake invoices from 11 companies, causing tax losses of more than 156 billion VND.
