On December 29, the small house of teacher Nguyen Van The and teacher Nguyen Thi Thuong in Leng Su Sin commune, Muong Nhe district was still somewhat quiet. The furniture in the house was simple and neatly arranged. On a small table in the corner of the house was a peach blossom branch with a few buds blooming.
Seeing us attentively looking at each item in the house, Ms. Thuong spoke softly as if to express her feelings. Her voice was gentle: Here, on this remote border, traveling is a problem for us. Therefore, the utensils and food for Tet are mainly made by ourselves. For example, we have a few chickens raised at home; eggs are available; vegetables are available in the garden; peach blossoms are obtained from the village… As for fresh flowers and kumquat trees, we cannot have them.
Having been a teacher in the remote areas for more than 10 years, many times staying at school to celebrate Tet with students, colleagues and ethnic people in the border areas, we are used to the simple Tet!

On the days before Tet, teacher Nguyen Thi Thuong is still working hard on her lesson plans. |
While his wife and guests were chatting, it seemed that every word Ms. Thuong said touched the depths of the heart of the man far from home, making Mr. The unable to help but add his words.
Teacher The's voice was sad: I told myself I was used to it, I wasn't that sad, but when I saw each person in the dormitory carrying their backpacks through the door, I could only turn away. I wanted to say hello to everyone, but it was so choked up!
Staying at school to celebrate Tet like Mr. The and Ms. Thuong, teacher Tran Thi Hang, Hoa Ban Kindergarten, Muong Nhe district, also has many memories and longings for their distant homeland.
Ms. Tran Thi Hang confided: After 13 years of teaching in the westernmost district of the country, I have become accustomed to many Tet holidays away from home. Partly due to circumstances, partly due to fear of the long distance of nearly a thousand kilometers, I often choose to stay and celebrate Tet with the students and the local people.
Here, Tet is simple but full of human warmth, because despite being poor, the villagers, parents, and students all share their home-made food and come to encourage and visit the teachers who stay behind...
Understanding the nostalgia and longing of those who braved the hardships to go to the border to spread knowledge and the sacrifices of those who stayed behind when Tet came, before each Lunar New Year, the Departmentof Education and Training of Muong Nhe district organized a review and made a list of teachers registered to stay at school.
According to the list of registered teachers, the Department and the Board of Directors of the schools will develop a plan to visit and encourage the teachers. Along with that, small gifts will be given to the teachers who stay.
Mr. Pham Thiet Chuy, Head of the Department of Education and Training of Muong Nhe district, said: This Tet Quy Mao, about 35% of teachers in the district stayed at school to celebrate Tet, but the love and affection teachers have for the people and students is boundless.
To fill the longing for their loved ones and hometown, teachers spend time visiting each house in the village; giving small gifts, such as banh chung and peanut candy made by the teachers themselves, to their students. In many schools, teachers also contribute money to organize banh chung wrapping and make New Year's Eve meals with the joy of the villagers. Therefore, Tet for teachers in the village, although simple, is filled with human affection...
