Notably, the list of Galaxy smartphones no longer supported by Samsung software may be expanded in the coming months as many other devices from the Korean company also end their support lifecycle according to the policy that has been put in place.
Galaxy S20 series is on the list of ending support for the latest software from Samsung
Samsung is considered one of the leading Android smartphone manufacturers in terms of software support policy, with a commitment to provide up to 7 years of major software updates and security patches for some Galaxy smartphone models. Notably, this applies not only to high-end models but also to mid-range models, such as the newly launched Galaxy A16 5G.
Smartphone models affected by Samsung's old policy
However, the end of software support for Galaxy smartphones is inevitable. In 2025, some smartphones from Samsung will no longer receive One UI updates. The list of devices that will lose software support this time includes Galaxy A02s, Galaxy A12, Galaxy S20 FE 5G, Galaxy S20 FE, Galaxy S20 Ultra 5G, Galaxy S20 Ultra, Galaxy S20+ 5G, Galaxy S20+, Galaxy S20 5G, Galaxy S20, Galaxy W21 5G (a rebranded version of the Galaxy Z Fold 2 5G in China).
While these smartphones aren’t that old, with most of them launched in 2020, Samsung has only provided one or two updates to the devices since then, with the exception of the high-end models. Notably, the Galaxy A02s, A12, and W21 5G will stop receiving support at the end of January 2025, while the Galaxy S20 series still has a longer time for security patches.
With software support coming to an end, it may be time for users to consider upgrading to a new phone. Using an outdated device can lead to incompatibility with apps and services, as well as a lack of security patches that leave users vulnerable to malware.
