A botnet infrastructure is a network of compromised computing devices used to carry out cyberattacks.
Once compromised, compromised computers are used by attack groups as tools to automate mass attacks such as malware distribution, server disruption, and data theft.

In September 2024, the Cybersecurity Department recorded 468,796 Vietnamese IP addresses within botnets, including 18 IP addresses belonging to state agencies and organizations.
This is the result of this unit's task of monitoring and early detection of internal system threats, especially the risk of servers and workstations in the system being infected with malware and becoming botnets, as well as sharing information about cyber threats with international organizations and continuously monitoring botnet networks.
Thus, from the beginning of the year until now, the Cybersecurity Department has detected 321 systems of state agencies and organizations connected to botnet infrastructure; and has assisted these units in preventing and handling them.
In September, the number of IP addresses in Vietnam connected to botnets was 468,796 (a decrease of more than 75% compared to 2019).
To maintain the results achieved, in parallel with continuing to deploy malware scanning and removal campaigns, the Information Security Department has clearly identified that it will strengthen propaganda and raise user awareness; monitor and block connections to malware control servers that attack and compromise information security for agencies and individual users.
