
On the afternoon of January 28th (the 29th day of the Lunar New Year), the Traffic Police Department announced that during the four-day Lunar New Year holiday, 202 traffic accidents occurred nationwide, claiming the lives of 95 people and injuring 162 others.
Of those, on January 28 alone, there were 50 traffic accidents, resulting in 17 deaths and 48 injuries, all occurring on roads. Compared to the same period in 2024, there was a decrease of 35 accidents, 23 deaths, and 29 injuries.
During road patrols and inspections, local traffic police checked, detected, and handled 6,957 violations; temporarily seized 37 cars, 2,348 motorcycles, and 43 other vehicles; revoked 284 driver's licenses of all types, and deducted points from driver's licenses in 725 cases.
The most common violations were drunk driving, with 1,896 cases processed, followed by speeding violations (1,617 cases); overloading (5 cases); exceeding size limits (8 cases); carrying more passengers than permitted (43 cases); and drug-related violations (9 cases).
Highway traffic police teams under the Traffic Police Department inspected and issued citations to 46 cases (16 passenger buses, 8 trucks, 19 cars, 2 containers, 1 motorbike), revoked driving licenses in 3 cases, temporarily seized 3 vehicles, and deducted points from driving licenses in 16 cases.
In addition, traffic police also detected 70 cases of vehicle violations through technical equipment, stopping and issuing administrative violation reports in 22 cases, and sending notifications to vehicle owners in 48 cases; they also detected 24 violations through mobile patrol and video recording, issuing violation reports in 13 cases and sending notifications in 11 cases.
In the field of waterways, Waterway Patrol Unit I and Waterway Patrol Unit II of the Traffic Police Department, and the traffic police departments of local police forces inspected, detected, and handled 2 cases of violations.
