42 elementary school students hospitalized after lunch

42 students and a teacher of An My Primary School (Phu Duc Commune, Hung Yen Province) were hospitalized after a lunch at school.

On September 5, the leader of Phu Duc General Hospital said that two days ago, the hospital received 42 students (mostly first graders) and a teacher with abdominal pain, dizziness, and nausea, diagnosed with digestive disorders suspected of being caused by food poisoning.

Phu Duc General Hospital is the place that received and treated 42 students and a teacher of An My Primary School who had unusual symptoms after eating a lunch at the boarding school on September 3.

The hospital has implemented a treatment plan for the patients. So far, all of them are in stable health, and no cases have been recorded that have progressed to a more serious level and required transfer to a higher level. However, on the morning of September 5, the hospital is still monitoring and treating 41 students and teachers, and one student was discharged home on September 4.

Responding to a reporter from VTC News Electronic Newspaper, Mr. Nguyen Van Chu, Chairman of the People's Committee of Phu Duc Commune, said that the commune has directed the handling work, assigned commune health workers and the school to focus on emergency care and medical care for students and teachers experiencing unusual symptoms.

Mr. Chu said the health department has taken samples of the school's food to send for testing to find the cause, but there are no specific results yet.

Ms. Nguyen Thi Hoa, Principal of An My Primary School, said this was the first time in more than 20 years of organizing a boarding kitchen that the school had encountered such an incident.

The food ingredients are ordered by the school, then processed and cooked at school to serve students and teachers in need. The boarding meal on September 3rd, in addition to meat and eggs, also had pumpkin soup and some students brought milk to drink.
