The TV series “Goodbye Earth” revolves around the story of people living in chaos before the predicted apocalypse - when Earth and an asteroid collide.
The film recently held a press conference in Yongsan-gu, Seoul (Korea) with the participation of director Kim Jin Min, actors Ahn Eun Jin, Jeon Sung Woo, Kim Yoon Hye.
According to director Kim, as soon as he received the script, he thought it was a unique doomsday project - making him wonder how he would live in such circumstances.
“It’s a film about people who choose not to run away. There have been many stories about people saving the Earth, but I think the real heroes are those who survive and stay with the people around them.
“Each character’s story is meaningful, valuable and worthy of respect because it represents human dignity. They may look small but they are heroes with big hearts,” said Kim Jin Min.
Like the role of Ahn Eun Jin - Se Kyung - a middle school teacher, a normal character but with a high sense of responsibility - always has only one thought in mind, which is to protect her students.
According to director Kim, in this project, he has complete trust in Ahn Eun Jin. “As soon as I received the script, I immediately thought of Ahn Eun Jin, before she became famous.
The production company and Netflix had a disagreement, but I met with Eun Jin's company director and proposed to work together. She was my first choice and my number one choice."
Meanwhile, with Yoo Ah In - who is being prosecuted without detention for violating the Narcotics Control Act, the director said he had to re-edit the film many times due to the actor's scandal.
“The problem arose when I was editing the first three episodes. At first I thought I would omit Yoo Ah In’s role, but things didn’t turn out the way I wanted.
So I told the Netflix producers that I wanted to re-edit the previous episodes. It was a secret, but Netflix wouldn't let me touch the episodes after I edited them. However, I had my reasons.
I wanted the drama to go well so I edited it. It's true that I tried to minimize his appearance time to reduce inconvenience to viewers.
But it's impossible to completely eliminate Yoo Ah In because his character is closely related to the main story. I hope viewers won't feel uncomfortable.
I also want them to understand that I had no choice but to keep the necessary scenes so as not to affect the main story and other actors.”
The movie “Goodbye Earth” will air on Netflix on April 26.
