Carlos Alcaraz opened his Nitto ATP Finals 2025 campaign with an impressive 7-6(5), 6-2 victory over Alex de Minaur in the early morning of November 10. This result not only helped the Spaniard get off to a good start but also marked an important step forward in his journey to conquer his first title at the prestigious end-of-season tournament.

After two defeats in the opening match in Turin (Italy) against Alexander Zverev (2023) and Casper Ruud (2024), Alcaraz clearly showed his determination to change the script. Although the first set was tense and had to be decided by a tie-break, the 21-year-old tennis player still maintained his composure to win from a 3-5 deficit, scoring four consecutive points and closing the set with a 7-6(5) victory.
In the second set, Alcaraz continued to maintain his high form, controlling his errors well and making effective use of his powerful shots to break away, winning 6-2. He finished the match after 1 hour and 40 minutes and raised his record against De Minaur to 5-0.
“It was a really tough match. Alex is an extremely fast player and hard to beat on this surface. I am happy to have overcome the challenge and satisfied with my performance to look forward to the next matches," Alcaraz shared.
With the opening victory, Alcaraz moved closer to his goal of winning the year's number one title - a feat he achieved in 2022. The Spaniard needs 250 more points in Turin to overtake rival Jannik Sinner in the year-end world number one race, with each group stage win bringing 200 points.
Alcaraz will next face either Taylor Fritz or Lorenzo Musetti in the Jimmy Connors group. The young Spaniard currently leads the Tour with 68 wins and eight titles in the 2025 season.
