Alibaba.com says it is building a global supply chain powered by SMEs, leveraging the power of artificial intelligence.
"As we push for wider adoption of our AI tools within the micro, small, and medium-sized enterprise community, we also hope to expand our global supplier network, aiming for 100,000 suppliers within the next three years," said an Alibaba.com representative.
Alibaba stated that a recent survey showed these businesses are frequently seeking innovative solutions and products such as AI. In fact, 25-30% of the surveyed MSMEs use AI daily. On Alibaba.com alone, approximately 30,000 MSMEs globally are using the platform's AI tools.
By leveraging these tools, the surveyed companies saw a 37% increase in product visibility, creating more opportunities for new business deals and growth. Additionally, the surveyed MSMEs using Alibaba.com's AI tools are boosting their business through AI expertise, as they accepted up to 70% of the optimization suggestions from these tools.

According to Alibaba.com, SMEs can diversify their sourcing by connecting with suppliers focused on specific industries and products. Examples include cosmetics made from natural ingredients (South Korea), home furnishings, cameras and accessories (Japan), spices and sauces (Vietnam), gemstones and equestrian equipment (India and Pakistan), etc.
Alibaba.com aims to support 100 MSMEs across Africa in setting up stores on its platform to sell their products globally. In addition, of the 500 events and workshops that Alibaba.com will organize this year (April 2024 to March 2025) for global suppliers, approximately 300 will be held in developing countries.
