The culinary website introduces Vietnamese bread, pronounced "bun mee", inheriting the culinary heritage of France and China. Over time, the bread has been modified and created by locals, and has now become a typical dish of the Vietnamese people. Vietnamese bread has long been recognized as delicious around the world. On March 24, 2011, the term "banh mi" was recognized in the Oxford English Dictionary with the note "A type of sandwich of Vietnam".

Taste Atlas describes this bread as having a crust similar to a French baguette. Vietnamese baguettes are characterized by a crispy, thin crust and a soft, spongy inside. Meanwhile, French baguettes are crispy, hard, and chewy. When introduced to Vietnam, the bread recipe was changed to suit the local people.

The fillings inside are what make the Vietnamese sandwich unique. The fillings usually include meat, pate, herbs, pickled vegetables and sliced green chili. Each region has its own variation of the fillings. Two other Vietnamese versions of banh mi also appear in this ranking of Taste Atlas: the meat sandwich ranked 9th with 4.4/5 stars and the roast pork sandwich ranked 29th with 4.3/5 stars.

Meatloaf is a dish that many foreign tourists know when coming to Vietnam. The culinary website suggests that tourists can buy meatloaf and roast pork bread anywhere from street vendors to large bakeries in tourist cities in Vietnam. However, roast pork bread is more popular in Ho Chi Minh City. Bread can be used for every meal of the day.

In the top 5 sandwiches, after Vietnamese sandwiches, comes the tombik döner, also known as gobit kebab, a Turkish specialty grilled meat sandwich. Coming in at number 3 is Indian shawarma. Coming in at number 4 is Mexican tortas. Coming in at number 5 is the Maine lobster sandwich from the US.

Vietnamese bread has been honored many times by Taste Atlas. In February 2023, the culinary site announced the 50 best street foods in the world, in which Vietnamese bread ranked 6th.
