Bus station, airport, metro crowded with passengers on December 25

From morning to noon on December 25, bus stations, train stations, and airports in Ho Chi Minh City were crowded. Metro trains were also always packed with passengers.

On January 24th (the 25th day of the 12th lunar month), the last working day before the 2025 Lunar New Year holiday, thousands of people gathered at bus stations, airports, and train stations in Ho Chi Minh City to return to their hometowns to celebrate Tet.

At the new Eastern Bus Station, hundreds of people gathered in the waiting area for buses to depart. Yesterday (January 23), the new Eastern Bus Station transported approximately 11,000 passengers on 464 bus trips.

On the morning of January 24th, the new Eastern Bus Station became more bustling as it collaborated with LCH Foods Joint Stock Company (singer Lam Chan Huy) to organize a free bus trip, taking 440 disadvantaged people back to Nghe An and Ha Tinh provinces to celebrate Tet. Sharing with the people, the male singer from Nghe An said that he was very moved when he was able to do a meaningful thing before the New Year, which was to bring the poor people back to their hometown to reunite with their families. He hoped that his contribution would share some of the difficulties with the people, helping them have a warm and complete Tet with their families.

Ms. Thu Huong's family (from Nam Dan, Nghe An ) shared that bus tickets during the days before Tet have increased, about more than 2 million VND per person. Including food expenses, the couple and their young child will spend about 5 million VND to go home, which is a large sum of money for them. Therefore, when they were given sleeper bus tickets to go home, including food expenses along the way, they were very happy. "If we had not been given tickets, we would not have dared to go home because we could not afford them. I could not sleep all night. Thank you to the new Eastern Bus Station and singer Lam Chan Huy for creating conditions for us," Ms. Huong shared.

Many people in difficult circumstances are supported and sent home for free to celebrate Tet with their families.

Today, the old Eastern Bus Station (Binh Thanh District) and Western Bus Station were also crowded with passengers. Mr. Tran Van Phuong, Deputy Director of Western Bus Station, said that as of 12 noon on the same day, 794 buses had departed, taking 22,443 passengers to the Western provinces. Mr. Phuong assessed that this was one of the peak days serving people during the Lunar New Year this year.

Tan Son Nhat Airport also recorded a record volume today, with approximately 1,002 flights arriving and departing, serving 150,000 passengers. The check-in halls, waiting areas, and even the taxi lanes outside the terminal were constantly packed with people.

Similarly, reporters from Giao Thong Newspaper observed a large number of people using the metro on the urban railway line. Among them, many residents from the city center used the metro to get to the new Eastern Bus Station to catch buses back to their hometowns.

Besides, many people take the opportunity to bring their relatives to experience the metro.

According to the Metro Line 1 One-Member Limited Liability Company (the metro line operator), since its opening, the metro line has welcomed 1.76 million passengers, averaging 109,915 passengers per day, which is 2.8 times higher than the projected volume.

During the upcoming Lunar New Year holiday, the metro line will extend its operating hours daily to serve people traveling during the holiday. Specifically, from January 24th to 28th (25th-29th of the Lunar month), the trains will run from 5 AM to 11 PM, an hour longer than usual.

Specifically, on New Year's Eve, January 29th (the first day of Tet), in addition to the scheduled time from 5 AM to 11 PM, the metro will run from 0:30 AM to 2 AM to serve residents and tourists enjoying the festivities and watching fireworks. From January 30th to February 2nd (the second to fifth days of Tet), the trains will run from 5 AM to 10 PM.
