Ho Chi Minh City warns of traffic jam-prone spots, announces hotline for September 2nd holiday

This year's National Day holiday on September 2 lasts four days, and it is forecast that the number of people traveling by road, air, rail and water in Ho Chi Minh City will all increase.

To ensure safety and minimize traffic congestion during the September 2nd holiday, the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Construction has planned traffic diversions and announced several hotlines to provide timely assistance to the public.

Airports and bus stations are expected to be busier than last year.

According to the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Construction, Tan Son Nhat Airport is expected to welcome approximately 125,000 passengers per day, a 6% increase compared to the same period last year.

Saigon Railway Station welcomes over 12,800 people per day, more than double the number in 2024.

Intercity bus stations are projected to see an increase compared to the same period last year, exceeding 65,000 passengers per day.

The Cat Lai ferry averages 60,000 passengers per day, the Binh Khanh ferry about 32,000, while the Can Gio - Vung Tau ferry route has seen an increase of approximately 20%.

The Saigon - Vung Tau high-speed ferry is expected to carry 1,000 passengers per day. Meanwhile, Metro Line 1 has also increased its number of trips from 226 to 264 per day, operating from 5 am to 11 pm.

Many traffic congestion hotspots have been warned about in advance. For example, around Tan Son Nhat airport, roads such as the Lang Cha Ca roundabout, Truong Son, Cong Hoa, and Pham Van Dong (the Truong Son - Nguyen Thai Son section) are frequently overloaded and will be closely monitored by authorities.

In the areas surrounding bus stations, traffic congestion may occur at Hang Xanh intersection, Binh Trieu bridge, Dinh Bo Linh - Nguyen Xi intersection (former Eastern Bus Station); National Highway 1 near the station entrance, Tan Van intersection (new Eastern Bus Station); and Kinh Duong Vuong area, An Lac roundabout, National Highway 1, Vo Tran Chi road (Western Bus Station).

Eastern gateway routes such as An Phu intersection, Phu My bridge, and Cat Lai ferry; and western and southwestern routes such as National Highway 50, Tran Van Giau road, and Binh Thuan - Cho Dem expressway are also classified as high-risk areas.

People should avoid traffic congestion hotspots and save the hotline number for assistance.

To alleviate traffic congestion, Ho Chi Minh City has requested bus stations, train stations, and airports to increase the number of vehicles and flexibly adjust bus and metro schedules to better connect with transportation hubs.

Bus routes to the airport, Saigon Railway Station, and intercity bus terminals will have their frequency increased by approximately 10%. Authorities will be stationed at key locations to regulate traffic, while also intensifying inspections and enforcement against traffic violations, particularly illegal parking, soliciting passengers, and unauthorized fare increases.

During the September 2nd holiday, people in need of assistance or assistance can call the hotline 1022, and also monitor the situation online at giaothong.hochiminhcity.gov.vn or the TTGT application. For bus and public transport travel needs, passengers can check at buyttphcm.com.vn or the MultiGo application.
