Ministry of Public Security and Google deploy anti-fraud measures in cyberspace

(Dan Tri) - The campaign is designed to equip the community with useful knowledge to help identify and avoid sophisticated forms of online fraud, strengthening the necessary safety foundation for people.

  The situation of online fraud in Vietnam is becoming more complicated, causing great damage and having a profound impact on users.

According to statistics from the Ministry of Public Security , in 2024, there were more than 6,000 cases with total losses exceeding VND 12,000 billion. A recent report also showed that 70% of Vietnamese people have been exposed to at least one scam call or text message each month, showing the urgent need to improve cybersecurity knowledge and skills.

Faced with that situation, on the morning of June 26, the Department of Cyber ​​Security and High-Tech Crime Prevention (Department A05 - Ministry of Public Security) coordinated with Google to officially launch the Campaign to Prevent and Combat Online Fraud with the theme "Safer with the Ministry of Public Security and Google".

Speaking at the event, Lieutenant Colonel Nguyen Ba Son, Deputy Director of Department A05, emphasized: "Implementing the direction of the leaders of the Ministry of Public Security, the Department of Cyber ​​Security and High-Tech Crime Prevention and Control, together with the police of units and localities, has strengthened the work of grasping the situation, fighting and destroying many criminal groups in cyberspace, focusing on crimes of fraud and appropriation of property through cyberspace."

Mr. Son also commented that the situation of online fraud crimes is still very painful and is predicted to continue to develop complicatedly if there are no sustainable, important and breakthrough solutions.

Deputy Director of Department A05 affirmed that propaganda work, especially raising public awareness, is a key factor in limiting online fraud crimes.

“To effectively carry out this work, the whole society needs to join hands to build a safe and healthy network environment. In particular, the participation and coordination of transnational enterprises with a large number of users in Vietnam is needed,” said Senior Lieutenant Colonel Nguyen Ba Son, while appreciating Google’s initiative and commitment to cooperation.

“This campaign demonstrates the autonomy, determination and responsible coordination between authorities, businesses and social organizations in protecting citizens in cyberspace and creating a safe and healthy digital environment,” he said.

According to Department A05, the 7 most common forms of fraud today include: fraud impersonatingeducational institutions; fraud recovering suspended capital; service payment fraud; online shopping and travel fraud; fraud impersonating police officers, the Procuracy, and the Court; emotional fraud for financial gain; and investment fraud on fake platforms.

The collaborative campaign between Department A05 and Google is carefully designed to promote a nationwide movement on digital safety, focusing on propaganda on online platforms.

The main goal is to equip people, especially vulnerable groups, with the necessary knowledge to protect themselves online.

In addition, the campaign will also feature a series of eight one-minute educational videos featuring experts from Google and the A05 Department. These videos will highlight seven of the most common forms of fraud and provide viewers with helpful tips and prevention tools.

Through close coordination on platform security, user education, capacity building and rapid response, Google and Department A05 are working to prevent the wave of online fraud in Vietnam.

This activity contributes to building a strong, trustworthy digital future, helping all Vietnamese citizens and businesses to safely exploit their full online potential.
