Ministry of Education and Training issues instructions for teaching 2 sessions/day

The Ministry of Education and Training has just issued guidelines for teaching 2 sessions/day according to the principle of flexibility and ensuring the principle of voluntariness.

Accordingly, at the primary level , the organization of teaching 2 sessions/day with no more than 7 periods/week. Each period is 35 minutes, implementing the teaching plan of 9 sessions/week (equivalent to 32 periods/week).

Session 1 teaches the general education program according to regulations. Session 2 organizes consolidation activities for students to complete the learning content, cultural and artistic activities, STEM/STEAM education, reading culture education, school culture, moral education, life skills education, financial education, education on traffic safety and order, digital literacy education, artificial intelligence (AI), foreign languages, sports, activities to learn about nature, society, culture, history, local traditions and other educational content according to regulations, meeting the needs, interests, and talents of students...

For secondary school level , the implementation of teaching 2 sessions/day according to the roadmap, organization, and implementation when the facilities and teaching staff are sufficient. The arrangement of time and schedule ensures a minimum of 5 days/week, maximum of 11 sessions/week. Each day, teaching does not exceed 7 periods, each period is 45 minutes.

At this level, the first session also covers the compulsory general education program. The second session organizes review and tutoring for students who have not met the requirements of the general education program, fosters excellent students, organizes review for final year students preparing for the 10th grade entrance exam, organizes scientific and technical research activities, career education, experiential activities, STEM/STEAM education, reading culture education, school culture, ethics education, life skills education, financial education, traffic safety and order, digital literacy education, artificial intelligence (AI), foreign languages, sports, arts, etc.

At high school level , the implementation of teaching 2 sessions/day is also organized in qualified schools with a minimum study schedule of 5 days/week, maximum of 11 sessions/week, each day no more than 7 periods, each period 45 minutes.

The arrangement of the class is similar to that of junior high school, with the first session studying the compulsory general education program. The second session is for reviewing and tutoring students who have not met the requirements, training excellent students, students preparing for high school graduation exams, organizing scientific research activities, career guidance, experiential activities, etc.

The Ministry of Education and Training requires schools to diversify teaching methods such as organizing in groups, students of the same level and interests, in clubs, guiding students to self-study, combining in-class and out-of-class, outside of school.

Schools are allowed to coordinate with universities, research institutions, businesses, organizations and individuals to participate in appropriate educational activities. The arrangement of teaching 2 sessions/day must be flexible, not fixed in the morning as "session 1" and the afternoon as "session 2", but depending on the conditions and wishes of students of each school.

Regarding funding, arrange local budgets, effectively integrate programs, projects and plans to increase investment in facilities, teaching equipment and funding for implementation. In addition, promote socialization, encourage and create conditions for organizations and individuals to contribute and invest resources in education according to the law.
