Regarding the information that British police discovered and rescued seven migrants from a truck at East Sussex port (Newhaven, England) on February 16th, the Vietnamese Embassy in the United Kingdom and Northern Ireland stated that the incident is currently under investigation and verification.
These people are currently receiving medical treatment.
Following the directives of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs , the Vietnamese Embassy in the United Kingdom and Northern Ireland has been in close contact with local authorities, requesting coordination and closely monitoring the case. The embassy is also ready to take necessary measures to protect Vietnamese citizens and ensure their legitimate rights and interests are safeguarded should the individual be identified as a Vietnamese citizen.
According to British media reports, on February 16th, authorities discovered seven migrants, believed to be Vietnamese citizens, in a truck container at the Newhaven ferry terminal. The ferry operator DFDS, which runs routes between Newhaven and Dieppe in Normandy, northern France, confirmed that the migrants were found on the Seven Sisters ferry and stated that they received immediate medical attention.
On February 19, Anas Al Mustafa, 42, from Swansea, appeared before Brighton Magistrates' Court on charges of illegally bringing people into the United Kingdom. He has been remanded in custody and will appear before Lewes Magistrates' Court on March 18.
According to police sources, in addition to Al Mustafa, another suspect was arrested on charges of illegally entering the UK.
