A MULTI-TALENTED COMPETITOR REACHES THE FINAL ROUND
Round 2 of the 2023 National Volleyball Championship has just concluded in Dak Nong and Da Nang, selecting 8 men's teams and 8 women's teams to participate in the finals from November 16-19 in Khanh Hoa (men's competition) and Quang Nam (women's competition).
Vietnamese volleyball on the path to professionalism.
On November 13th, Mr. Le Tri Truong, General Secretary of the Vietnam Volleyball Federation (VFV), stated: "From a professional standpoint, strong teams with good investment in both personnel and finances, such as Duc Giang Chemical, Information Corps - Truong Tuoi Binh Phuoc, Ninh Binh, VTV Binh Dien Long An (women's), Sanest Khanh Hoa, Border Guard, Ninh Binh, and The Cong (men's), have all demonstrated their value. The matches between the top teams in each group have been intense, exciting, and of high professional quality. The investment in foreign players by the teams has also created balance, so the upcoming final round matches promise to be very exciting to watch."
If they maintain their form, Ninh Binh, Duc Giang Chemical, and Binh Phuoc Information Corps - Truong Tuoi are predicted to win against Thanh Hoa, Vietinbank, and Quang Ninh respectively to advance to the semi-finals. The most intense quarter-final match is the clash between defending champion Thai Binh and former champion VTV Binh Dien Long An. The early quarter-final encounter between these two powerful teams means they will have to eliminate each other, which is quite unfortunate. This match will see Lana Scuka (Slovenian) of Thai Binh and Odina Aliyeva (Azerbaijan) of VTV Binh Dien Long An play crucial roles, significantly impacting who will advance to the semi-finals.
In the men's tournament, the four "giants" of Vietnamese volleyball – Border Guard, Sanest Khanh Hoa, Ninh Binh, and The Cong – are predicted to secure their places in the semi-finals when they face weaker opponents: Long An, Da Nang, Ha Tinh, and Hanoi, respectively. The finals in both the men's and women's tournaments only truly become intense in the semi-finals, as the skill levels of the teams in this group are relatively similar.
TRY TO BECOME PROFESSIONAL AS SOON AS POSSIBLE IN FOOTBALL.
Mr. Le Tri Truong stated that the recent success of the Vietnamese women's volleyball team has added to the appeal of the national volleyball championship. "More and more businesses are investing in volleyball, and clubs are also making thorough preparations in terms of both domestic and foreign players. For our part, the VFV (Vietnam Volleyball Federation) is constantly striving to make the tournament more complete and professional. Annual seminars have helped us make changes to the regulations and adjust the organization of the national championship to become more professional, such as reducing the number of participating teams to 8 men's teams and 8 women's teams instead of the current 10, increasing prize money, and eliminating the relegation play-off round…".
The VFV leadership emphasized that in the long term, the national championship will be reformed according to the V-League model, such as playing in a home and away format and only on weekends. "The roadmap has been outlined, but the reality is that many Vietnamese volleyball clubs are 'living' on budget and therefore lack the resources to play professionally, while the number of professional clubs like those in the V-League can be counted on the fingers of one hand. Besides, the VFV also lacks human resources and has limited financial capacity, so becoming professional requires a process of investment and transformation. The path to professionalizing Vietnamese volleyball has been outlined with many difficulties and challenges, but we are determined to make the league truly attractive to fans," Mr. Le Tri Truong stated.
