A stamp set featuring Queen Victoria.
Designed by artist Steers McGillan Eves, the stamp set measures 27 mm x 37 mm and is presented in two horizontal strips, each containing four stamps. Each stamp has a face value for First Class mail (currently £1.70). In addition to the stamp set, the Royal Postal Service also issues several collectible publications such as commemorative stamp covers, first-day issue (FDC) envelope samples, and cancel-marked (CTO) stamps. The stamp set and all publications are printed using multi-color offset printing technology at Cartor Security Printing Company (UK).
Selected in collaboration with the Postal Museum, this collection brings together eight of the most iconic stamps from the Victorian era: the Penny Black, Two-Penny Blue, Embossed, first letterpress, small letters, Penny Red, Penny Lilac, and Jubilee. Among them is the 1840 Penny Black, the world's first affixed postage stamp, along with classics such as the Two-Penny Blue, Penny Red, and the special 'Jubilee' edition from 1887. The watermark on the back of each stamp replicates the design from when the original stamp was issued. The Royal Postal Service stated that this is the first time this feature has been used in its modern stamp issuance program.
