Representatives from the Ho Chi Minh City Commercial Cooperative Union ( Saigon Co.op ) stated that, after the storm subsided and transportation conditions temporarily became difficult, Co.opmart supermarkets in the North have flexibly replaced some items while still ensuring food safety and hygiene. Accordingly, the amount of imported frozen pork and frozen chicken has been increased; the quantity of vegetables from growing areas in Da Lat and some districts of Lam Dong is expected to arrive at the supermarkets by the evening of September 8th. Simultaneously, supplies have been increased from Phu Tho province to provide for supermarket systems in Hai Phong, Quang Ninh, Hanoi, etc.

“To support the people of the northern provinces after typhoon No. 3, the Co.opmart supermarket system is also providing free phone charging and free drinking water in supermarket lobbies in Hai Phong, Hanoi , Quang Ninh… In addition, many essential food items are still being offered at discounted prices of 30-50% to share the difficulties with the people,” a representative of Saigon Co.op said.

Similarly, all WinMart supermarkets and Winmart+/Win stores in the northern provinces are also operating normally. According to a representative of the system, for outlets that suffered damage to their infrastructure such as broken windows, damaged roofs, etc., and are located on flooded roads or have fallen trees, they will reopen as soon as the problems are resolved.

Mr. Nguyen Tien Dung, Deputy General Director of the WinMart chain, said that the company still ensures a full supply of goods to meet the shopping needs of people before and after the storm. In particular, food items such as leafy vegetables have been quickly replenished from WinEco farms, along with suppliers from Lam Dong and other southern provinces, to sales points in Hanoi and northern provinces recently affected by Typhoon Yagi. Essential food supplies are also regularly replenished; for example, fresh food items such as meat, fish, and vegetables, along with essential products like rice and instant noodles, have been increased by 30% compared to normal days, with stable prices.

“The WinMart supermarket chain maintains normal operating hours in shopping malls from 8 am to 10 pm, and WinMart supermarkets located outside shopping malls are open from 7 am to 10 pm daily. Currently, there is no price increase within the system; instead, we are actively sharing the burden with the people and creating a comfortable shopping experience for them after the storm,” Mr. Nguyen Tien Dung added.

Similarly, Mr. Dinh Quang Khoi, Marketing Director of MM Mega Market supermarket chain, said that on the morning of September 8th, goods at MM Mega Market supermarkets were still fully stocked because they had previously planned to increase reserves of food, drinks, fuel, medical products, and daily necessities in large quantities. However, the number of shoppers was not high because people were still focused on cleaning up after the storm.
