Ham Thanh commune was established by merging three communes: Ham Thanh, Ham Can, and My Thanh. It is a mountainous commune with a natural area of over 440 hectares, a population of 16,306 people in 4,140 households; of which, ethnic minorities account for 26%.
The merger creates a new, large-scale administrative unit with diverse development conditions and great potential, but it also places high demands on reorganizing the development space, stabilizing people's lives, and implementing new rural development tasks in the next phase.
During the 2020-2025 term, Ham Thanh commune's economic structure continued to shift positively towards gradually reducing purely agricultural production and increasing the proportion of value-chain agriculture and service activities. Many production models applying science and technology have gradually emerged, especially household economic models associated with key crops such as dragon fruit, corn, and cassava.
To date, the entire commune has nearly 2,000 hectares of dragon fruit; of which, more than 91 hectares meet VietGAP standards with 526 participating households; livestock farming is maintained stably on a household scale, and disease prevention and control for livestock and poultry is effectively implemented, contributing to stabilizing people's income.

Commercial and service activities have seen growth, with 207 individual business households operating in the fields of groceries, food and beverage, transportation, and agricultural product processing. The development of these business households has created more jobs, promoted the circulation of goods, and contributed to the goal of economic restructuring in the locality.
In addition, infrastructure serving production and daily life has received significant investment, notably the completion of 34 rural roads totaling over 40km, the assurance of a clean water supply system, and the rational placement of waste collection points, thereby significantly improving living conditions and environmental sanitation for the people.
Over the past five years, Ham Thanh commune has implemented many key projects in accordance with the Resolution of the Commune Party Congress. Several major projects such as the North-South expressway and the DT.718 road have been completed, opening up new trade opportunities, attracting investment, and creating many growth drivers for the locality.
Funding from national target programs for building new rural areas and sustainable poverty reduction has been mobilized and used effectively, with many essential infrastructure projects invested in, creating a foundation for Ham Thanh to enter a new phase of development.

In addition, support programs for ethnic minorities have been fully implemented, ranging from transferring production techniques, providing seeds and agricultural supplies, to expanding the area of hybrid corn cultivation by an average of 1,200 hectares per year.
The fact that the advance investment from the Mountain Service Center has achieved a 97% return on investment demonstrates the proactive cooperation of the people in developing livelihoods, contributing to increased income and stable living conditions.
The movement to build a cultured way of life has been intensified, cultural and sports facilities have been upgraded, the percentage of households achieving the title of "cultured family" is over 90%, and 100% of villages have achieved the title of "cultured village". Social welfare work has been implemented effectively, with more than 133 houses of compassion, houses for poor households, and houses for policy beneficiaries being newly built or renovated using various resources, helping people improve their living conditions.

However, the process of building new rural areas in Ham Thanh still faces many challenges. Economic development has not kept pace with its potential; the proportion of purely agricultural activities remains high; the application of science and technology in production is limited; and the linkages between production, processing, and consumption of agricultural products are not yet effective.
The poverty rate remains high, with 268 poor households accounting for 6.47% of the total households in the commune. The quality of human resources is uneven, and the channeling of students after lower secondary education is still low, especially in ethnic minority areas. The development of individual businesses remains small-scale, fragmented, lacking stability, and with low competitiveness.
Entering the 2025-2030 term, the Party Committee of Ham Thanh commune has identified its main objective as striving to achieve the new rural standard for the commune. To realize this goal, the commune is focusing on a comprehensive set of solutions to improve people's income, promote agricultural restructuring towards modernity and sustainability; strengthen the development of trade and services; complete essential infrastructure; improve the quality of socio-cultural criteria; ensure national defense and security; and consolidate a strong political system.
Building on the achievements of the past term, coupled with the determination of the entire political system and the consensus of the people, Ham Thanh is now meeting all the important conditions to achieve the goal of becoming a new rural commune in the 2025-2030 period.
This is not only a goal for building new rural areas, but also a driving force for Ham Thanh's sustainable development, improving the quality of life for its people and creating a new look for the mountainous region in the southeastern part of Lam Dong province.
