The author of literary books that captivated readers and have been translated into Vietnamese such as Trong nhung vong tay, Tinh ca chuc cam , Con gai - Fille, Boi uoc... is having a meeting with readers across the three regions of Vietnam on the occasion of the Vietnamese version of Boi uoc being released.
In the first talk of this journey with readers in Hanoi on the evening of October 18, the story of betrayal and infidelity in love was the one that speakers and readers "questioned" the most with Camille Laurens.
Nowadays, we not only consume goods, but also consume relationships.
The moderator of the talk show asked the author of "Broken Covenant": " In today's society, is there still the concept of fidelity in love?"
Camille Laurens answered frankly: "Actually, there is no such thing as fidelity, never has been. I am a bit pessimistic about this concept of fidelity. Love novels always write about infidelity."
The author revealed that in the book "Broken Promise" , she talked about trust. When people trust someone, it is usually based on a healthy love relationship. Yet there will still be times when we are uncertain, insecure, and "outside the husband and wife" in our psychology.
In today's society, promises and commitments are increasingly lacking. "We feel more and more insecure in a virtual society, a consumer society. In a consumer society, we not only consume goods, we also consume relationships.
People don't want to commit to dating, they're afraid. In today's society, people who want to find a committed relationship, they're discouraged," Camille Laurens said.

In the past, the "lifespan" of love was not longer
Camille Laurens has shared so much about infidelity in love, but the topic is so attractive that the writer's confession is still not enough to satisfy readers. A male reader asked: "Is love always associated with betrayal? Writers often praise love, but nowadays young people are afraid of marriage, especially in Europe."
Camille Laurens once again affirmed that love is not a feeling, a commitment that lasts over time without being tested. However, she said she "doesn't know if I should regret" the impermanence of love.
She asserted that it is not that people are cheating on each other now. In the past, the "lifespan" of love was not longer than it is now. It is just that social institutions have tied people to marriage.
That is why novels of all times write about love accompanied by jealousy and infidelity. Betrayal is an obvious thing in love.
Camille Laurens told her that love obviously contained infidelity in it, just as in a promise there is the seed of betrayal.
"When we are 100% sure, there is no need to promise. When we make someone promise, we are not sure about it. If we talk about love, I am pessimistic. In the long run, love will always have that pessimistic side.
The big theme in literature is adultery. It's not that to have a novel there has to be hardship, suffering, taboos. It's because love is like that. The heart has its own reasons," said Camille Laurens.

B a t i o n - the highest form of honesty
From the very first pages, Camille Laurens's Betrayal confronts the reader with a sin that is both personal and universal: betrayal.
Claire, a talented and confident writer, enters into a seemingly fateful relationship with Gilles, a charming puppeteer. They make a promise to each other: Claire promises never to write about Gilles; Gilles promises never to betray Claire .
But those two promises become shackles that bind them. When love gradually turns into control, when trust turns into a prison, Claire is forced to choose between keeping her promise and keeping herself.
Breaking a promise becomes the highest form of honesty.
