During the meeting, representatives from the Can Tho Investment Promotion, Trade and Exhibition Center (the Center) provided information about the new Can Tho City, as well as its potential and opportunities for investment and cooperation, particularly in the trade sector. Can Tho City's main exports to Australia are rice, seafood, garments, agricultural products, and processed agricultural products; its main import is wheat. However, trade between the two sides has not yet reached its full potential and advantages.
During the meeting, the Center also informed the delegation about meaningful activities that Can Tho City has effectively coordinated with the Australian Consulate General in the past, such as planting friendship trees at Hau River Park and activities commemorating the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries.
Representatives of businesses participating in the exhibition at the Can Tho City joint booth introduced characteristic products, commercial products, OCOP products, unique local products protected by intellectual property rights, and innovative startup products.
Some of the prominent brands selected for introduction include export products from Cuu Long Fruit Garden Joint Stock Company, 5-star OCOP products from Ho Quang Tri Private Enterprise (ST25 rice), processed agricultural products from DG Foods Co., Ltd., soursop tea from Sumo Food Vietnam Co., Ltd., natural herbal instant teas from Hygie & Panacee Co., Ltd., mooncakes and sausages from Tan Hue Vien Mooncake & Sausage Processing Co., Ltd., Van Loc pineapple jam, Probelife CT purple rice milk, noni fruit tea, etc.
After listening to the presentation from Can Tho City, representatives from the Australian Chamber of Commerce in Vietnam (AusCham Vietnam) - an organization representing the Australian business community operating and investing in Vietnam - expressed their desire to learn more about the new Can Tho City planning, priority policies, and projects that the city is seeking investment for.
AusCham currently brings together nearly 300 members, including businesses and organizations operating in key sectors such as energy, education, agriculture , healthcare, and specialized services. Therefore, AusCham Vietnam will serve as a central point of contact for providing information from Can Tho City to Australian businesses to enhance investment and business activities in the city.
The Australian business delegation also included Auschain Co., Ltd., a company specializing in technology, innovation, and blockchain, using blockchain technology for product traceability. Notably, the company has numerous cooperation agreements and support for Vietnamese agricultural products. During the meeting, company representatives expressed their desire to explore and expand their market in Vietnam, support businesses and people in various provinces and localities in promoting the application of technology in product traceability, and support export activities.
The Center extends an invitation to AusCham Vietnam and a delegation of Australian businesses to visit the city to organize business networking forums between Can Tho City and Australia, as well as cultural and trade exchange events… with the aim of further strengthening the friendly relations and trade cooperation between Can Tho City and Australia in the future.
