The Times of India reported that the 13-year-old boy was arrested on June 23 after sending an email saying that a bomb had been planted on a plane flying from Indira Gandhi International Airport in Delhi (India) to Dubai (UAE).

The teenager admitted to doing the stunt "for fun" after reading about a similar incident in the news a few days ago, according to Delhi airport police deputy commissioner Usha Rangnani.

The teenager’s threat was found to be bogus after authorities inspected the plane. Police investigated the complaint and discovered the email account had been deleted shortly after it was sent.

Investigators traced the email and found it was sent from Pithoragarh city in Uttarakhand state. Police later tracked down and arrested the teenager.

"The boy told the police team that his parents had given him the mobile phone for his studies but he used it to send emails and then deleted the account. He did not share any information about his parents because he was afraid," said Ms Rangnani, adding that the boy had been returned to his family.

On June 1, another flight at Indira Gandhi International Airport also received a bomb threat. Authorities said a note with the words "bomb @5.30" was found in the plane's toilet, causing chaos at the airport and all 176 passengers were evacuated.

On May 16, a note with the word “bomb” written on it was found in the toilet of a plane at the same airport and all passengers were checked but nothing suspicious was found. Another flight at the airport in the Indian capital region was also threatened with a bomb in February, causing the flight to depart 6.5 hours late.
