The soldiers worked day and night building houses to help the people.

Since December 1st, in Hoa Thinh commune (comprising Hoa Thinh and Hoa Dong communes, Tay Hoa district, formerly Phu Yen province, now part of Dak Lak province), the sounds of hammers and cutting machines have been constant from morning until late at night. Amidst the cold and drizzle, the soldiers are busy erecting walls, laying bricks, and urgently building new houses for the people affected by the historic floods, hoping to complete them before Tet (Lunar New Year).

At the home of Mr. Tran Van Khanh (76 years old, Team 3, Phu Huu Hamlet, Hoa Thinh Commune), soldiers are still sweating profusely digging earth, shoveling sand, and carrying bricks to lay the foundation. Mr. and Mrs. Khanh are currently staying in a small shack temporarily built by the soldiers. He recounted that the recent flood swept away their entire house, forcing the couple to row a boat to their nephew's house for shelter during the days of high water.

Mrs. Tran Thi Lanh (80 years old), one of the households whose house was completely swept away in the historic flood, emotionally recounted: “I feel so sorry for the soldiers. Early in the morning, they came in groups to dig foundations and rebuild the pillars for my house. Before that, they also helped carry tables and chairs and clear away the rubble. Seeing how hard they worked, I cooked a pot of sweet potatoes and cassava to offer them, but they didn't dare eat, saying they had to wait for permission from their commander. Many of them are very young, but they work diligently without rest.”

Ms. Lanh said that everyone in the neighborhood hopes that the new houses will be completed before Tet so that people can celebrate the new year with peace of mind, without constantly worrying about floods.

According to residents of Hoa Thinh commune, the 143rd Platoon, 315th Division (Military Region 5) has been present here for more than a week to help people rebuild their houses after the flood. They have been working almost without a day off, staying at the construction site on Saturdays and Sundays, and sometimes even working overtime until late at night to meet deadlines.

Transport Brigade 555 and K52 area of Logistics - Technical Department of Military Region 5 worked at night to complete houses before Tet for people in flooded areas.

Corporal Nguyen Hoang Long, 315th Division, 143rd Regiment (Military Region 5), said he was assigned to Dak Lak on November 22nd to assist people in recovering from the floods and rebuilding their homes. “We are trying to build sturdy houses as quickly as possible so that people have safe places to live. The people here are very kind; they always ask about our well-being and help us. The soldiers' duty is not only to rescue people in times of crisis, but also to help them stabilize their lives in the long term, ” Corporal Long shared.

Soldiers poured concrete pillars overnight to meet schedule.

According to information from the 5th Military Region Command, Dak Lak province has 231 houses assigned to the military region's forces for construction. Currently, there are 29 units in Dak Lak province, including 8 units of the Ministry of National Defense and 21 units of the 5th Military Region, with a total of 279 construction teams. To date, the units have completed surveying, site clearing, and foundation laying for 147 out of 231 houses, achieving nearly 64% of the progress.

Earlier, on the afternoon of November 29th, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh and the Government delegation visited and encouraged the flood-affected people in Hoa Thinh commune. The Prime Minister requested that the houses for the people be built before Tet (Lunar New Year).
