Official launch of VNPT - Qualcomm Center of Excellence

On the afternoon of October 14, in Hanoi, Vietnam Posts and Telecommunications Group (VNPT) and Qualcomm Group (USA) officially launched the VNPT - Qualcomm Center of Excellence (VQEC).

This is the first center in Vietnam with the ability to access and develop global core technology.

In its development strategy to 2030, with a vision to 2035, VNPT focuses on three pillars: modern, safe and sustainable digital infrastructure, including 5G/6G networks, cloud computing, data centers and new-generation connection platforms; ecosystem of digital products and services Made in Vietnam, serving the digital government, digital economy and digital society; core technologies owned by Vietnamese people, from artificial intelligence (AI), Internet of Things (IoT), edge computing, to semiconductor technology.

VQEC is positioned as a regional research and innovation center, connecting businesses, research institutes, universities and technology startups. VQEC will focus on developing smart electronic devices, network devices and AI computing devices, contributing to the vision of Vietnam mastering core technology and reaching out to the global value chain.

At the launching ceremony of VQEC, VNPT General Director Huynh Quang Liem said that VQEC has a special significance in opening up a new space for developing 5G/6G digital infrastructure, cloud, data centers, from which, there will be products serving the Make in Vietnam ecosystem. This is also the core of national innovation, connecting businesses - schools - research institutes - technology startups in the VQEC ecosystem.

“The establishment of VQEC marks a strategic turning point in VNPT’s transformation journey to become Vietnam’s pioneering technology corporation (Techco). VQEC will be a place where Vietnamese intelligence and global knowledge converge, where VNPT and Qualcomm engineers jointly create smart electronic devices, network devices and AI computing, contributing to affirming the ability to master core technology and bring Make in Vietnam products to the international level,” VNPT General Director Huynh Quang Liem emphasized.

At the ceremony, Mr. Akash Palkhiwala, Chief Financial Officer and Chief Operating Officer (CFO & COO) of Qualcomm Corporation, said that at VQEC, Qualcomm will cooperate with VNPT to develop and commercialize advanced products and solutions, contributing to making Vietnam a technology hub of the region.

The two sides will work closely, with support from the Ministry of Science and Technology, to promote innovation and apply AI to various devices and technologies in Vietnam, while gradually expanding to the global market. VNPT currently possesses high-quality human resources, a large team of engineers with a solid technical foundation, which is a factor that Qualcomm is particularly interested in.

Cooperating with VNPT to develop VQEC demonstrates Qualcomm's long-term commitment to the Vietnamese market. We not only bring our technology and innovation to Vietnam, but also wish to build a comprehensive technology ecosystem with domestic enterprises,” Mr. Akash Palkhiwala emphasized.

Mr. Akash Palkhiwala also said that in the field of personal devices and computers, Qualcomm focuses on integrating AI to improve performance and user experience. Personal AI devices such as smart wearables are becoming an inevitable trend. Qualcomm has now developed the AI ​​Box product, a “data center in a box” solution and is cooperating with VNPT to deploy this solution in Vietnam.

As the core technology unit of VNPT Group in the field of industrial technology, VNPT Technology takes on the role of building and operating VQEC, aiming to become an Authorized Design Center of Qualcomm in Vietnam. The birth of VQEC is a testament to VNPT's aspiration to make Vietnam a strong country in technology and innovation, contributing to affirming the position of Make in Vietnam products on the global technology map.

Previously, in August 2025, VNPT and Qualcomm signed a strategic cooperation agreement towards the establishment of VQEC. This is the first center in Vietnam capable of accessing and developing global core technology, playing an important role in enhancing Vietnam's position in the international digital technology value chain.
