Should I choose the major or school I like?
Asking a question at the Q&A session, a parent from Hanoi said that her family has a child who is in the third year of Hanoi University of Science and Technology. Her second child likes Computer Science and loves Hanoi University of Science and Technology very much. So should the child choose this major at the University of Technology of the National University or choose a random major at Hanoi University of Science and Technology out of love?
With a witty answer, Dr. Nguyen Thi Cuc Phuong, Vice Principal of Hanoi University, said that choosing a favorite major or choosing a school is always a question many candidates ask every admission season.
According to this expert, students should choose a major they love instead of randomly choosing a major they don't like, because "the first person they love is not necessarily the best person, so students should boldly choose", said Dr. Nguyen Thi Cuc Phuong.

MSc. Nguyen Van Dung, Head of Measurement and Evaluation Research Department, Institute of Digital Training and Testing, Hanoi National University, also said that both schools provide very good training. Students should choose the major they like, instead of randomly choosing another major at a school they like.
Sharing the same view, Dr. Dong Van Ngoc, Principal of Hanoi College of Electromechanics, also advised candidates to choose the major they love rather than choosing a school. “From the beginning, students must determine the major they want to study in order to make the right choice,” said Mr. Ngoc.
There is no high-paying industry that is easy to get a job in if you don't try.
After listening to experts advise that candidates can register for a double major to pursue their dream major but do not have enough points to pass, Ms. Thuy Hong, a parent whose child has just graduated from Quang Trung High School - Ha Dong, asked if her child could "take a detour" to study semiconductor microchips, nanotechnology... at Hanoi University of Science and Technology or the civilian system of military schools?
Associate Professor Dr. Vu Duy Hai, Head of Admissions and Career Guidance Department of Hanoi University of Science and Technology, said that Hanoi University of Science and Technology has announced the expected benchmark scores for all training majors, but the official benchmark scores will only be finalized when the time for candidates to register their wishes ends. So at the present time, candidates who want to enter any major should boldly register.

Many questions related to admission were raised at the consultation session (Photo: Tr. Nam).
Mr. Hai also informed: candidates who graduate with a bachelor's degree from Hanoi University of Science and Technology are allowed to study a specialized engineering training program. This is also a "detour" to study their dream major, but according to this expert, at Hanoi University of Science and Technology, studying a major is already difficult, so candidates need to consider carefully to ensure their study requirements.
Associate Professor Dr. Nguyen Phu Khanh, Vice Principal of Phenikaa University, said that if you want to work in the field of semiconductor microchips, you can study many different majors.
“Don’t just jump into a hot industry because hot industries come with very high benchmarks. So you need to make smart choices.
For example, in the semiconductor industry, there are two types: IC design and packaging testing technology. While the standard for IC design is very high, there are still many opportunities in testing and packaging.

Speaking at the opening session of the consultation, Mr. Nguyen Tien Thao, Director of the Department of Higher Education ( Ministry of Education and Training ) said that the university threshold is not the final destination, but only the first step in the process of growing up, a journey very different from what you have experienced.
“There is no university, no profession that is ideal, has a high salary and is easy to get a job if we do not try our best with all our love, heart and mind.
No career is successful without pressure, sweat and tears, no score is high if we are self-confident and complacent early.
No door is closed if we do not give up on our dreams, no road is a red carpet if we do not understand the path we are taking.
Whoever you are, whatever path you choose, the important thing is to understand yourself, dare to dream and be brave enough to pursue that dream,” said Mr. Thao. According to the Director of the Department of Higher Education, no matter what major or school you decide to study, you must be responsible for that decision.
When you put your faith and try your best, the magical door will open to opportunities for self-development," Mr. Thao shared.
