On the evening of December 5, nearly 200 parents and students in Ho Chi Minh City had a meeting with poet Nguyen Quang Thieu - Chairman of the Vietnam Writers Association - at FAHASA Tan Dinh bookstore, Ho Chi Minh City. The event had the theme "From reading to writing - the journey of language development" organized by Vietnam Education Publishing House, Phuong Nam Education Investment and Development Joint Stock Company, FAHASA.
At the event, Mr. Nguyen Quang Thieu admitted the reality that many children prefer to use phones rather than read books: "When adults use phones too much, children will also turn to phones."
The President of the Vietnam Writers Association told a story about his own family: when all the adults in the family were engrossed in watching and listening to the phone, the writer's grandson (a first grader) also asked for the phone. And when all the adults in the family were reading books, the little boy also went to find his own books to read.
Therefore, Mr. Thieu concluded: "To create a reading habit for children, grandparents, parents, uncles and aunts must be pioneers in reading. It is necessary to create a reading environment for children. For children to love books, books must represent children's lives, reflect what children are thinking...".

Introducing the classic children's book series Papelucho
On this occasion, the event organizers introduced the children's book series Papelucho . This is a work of the same name by writer Marcela Paz, about the inner world of an 8-year-old Chilean boy.
With its humorous and friendly writing style, the series has attracted more than 11 million readers worldwide. Papelucho is a series of 12 books translated into Vietnamese by the Vietnam Education Publishing House and introduced to Vietnamese children.
The series is considered a world of emotions told through the innocent and mischievous perspective of an 8-year-old boy. Papelucho's diary records seemingly trivial things in life, childish questions, mistakes, and silly and interesting moments...
At the event, Mr. Pham Vinh Thai - Editor-in-Chief of Vietnam Education Publishing House - said: "In the context of the digital age, when reading culture is facing many challenges, we are deeply aware of our role. That is to publish valuable books to contribute to strengthening and enhancing reading culture in the community, especially the young generation".
