President Luong Cuong: Improve the quality of education, persistently build school culture

TPO - Attending the Ceremony to Celebrate Vietnamese Teachers' Day on November 20 and the 8th Patriotic Emulation Congress of the Education Sector on the morning of November 17, President Luong Cuong requested to improve the quality of education, persistently build school culture, and focus on educating students' ethics.

The Ministry of Education and Training organized the Ceremony to celebrate Vietnamese Teachers' Day on November 20 and the 8th Patriotic Emulation Congress of the Education Sector at Hanoi National University of Education.

Speaking at the ceremony, President Luong Cuong affirmed that over the past 80 years since the birth of the Democratic Republic of Vietnam, education has always accompanied the people, the nation and the country's history. With the philosophy of "an ignorant nation is a weak nation", right from the early days of the nation's founding, President Ho Chi Minh affirmed that "fighting hunger, illiteracy and foreign invaders" are the three key tasks of the Government and the people. He placed education in a special position in the national construction strategy.

From the mass education movement to classrooms amidst enemy bombs and bullets, from blackboards and chalk to today's technological lecture halls, the flame of dedication, sacrifice, and passion for the profession of generations of teachers has never been extinguished.

The President emphasized that the Party and State have always accompanied parents, creating the best conditions for students who are continuing and promoting the nation's tradition of studiousness, for a strong and humane Vietnam.

According to the President, if "competing to teach well - learn well" is the traditional source, today the emulation movement has been expanded and innovated with many practical contents such as: "Each teacher is an example of morality, self-study and creativity", "innovation and creativity in teaching and learning" has created a competitive atmosphere in the whole industry, bringing many initiatives and effective models, and recently the movement "building happy schools - active students" is becoming a humane trend, helping each school to be a place to nurture intelligence and soul.

The patriotic emulation congress of the education sector is not only an occasion to honor, but also a source of great spiritual encouragement, arousing the belief, pride, aspiration and will to rise of each teacher, each staff member in the education sector and each student. At the same time, this is also a motivation for emulation, not just a slogan but also a concrete action, a spirit of innovation and creativity every day.

On behalf of the Party and State leaders, the President acknowledged, highly appreciated, and commended more than 300 advanced models representing millions of teachers and educational managers; congratulated and expressed gratitude to the teachers who were awarded the titles of Labor Hero, National Emulation Fighter, People's Teacher, and Excellent Teacher, who are always at the forefront of emulation movements, dedicated to their profession, love their students, have excellent pedagogical talent, and are trusted and respected by students, colleagues, and the people.

In addition, the President also said that being frank and correctly recognizing the difficulties and limitations is necessary to continue to grow stronger. Innovation and improvement of education quality is an urgent requirement, of special importance in the strategic vision of national development, requiring perseverance and determination "For the hundred-year cause of cultivating people".

The Education sector continues to promote its strengths, overcome its limitations, and focus on implementing its tasks well, including thoroughly grasping the Party's guidelines, policies, and viewpoints, Uncle Ho's thoughts on education and training, and most recently Resolution No. 71 of the Politburo; promptly removing bottlenecks and bottlenecks in institutions, mechanisms, and policies; promoting innovation and creating development in education and training.

Effectively implement the Law on Teachers, build appropriate policies to mobilize talented people outside the teaching force to participate in teaching and training in educational institutions. Persistently build school culture, quality culture, practical learning, practical work associated with the responsibility of setting an example for the teaching staff.

Strengthening comprehensive education in morality, intelligence, physical fitness and aesthetics, forming a system of values ​​for Vietnamese people in the new era. The President requested that the first important thing in education is education on morality and personality, then education on knowledge and skills. In which, it is necessary to clearly define the roles, responsibilities and coordination mechanisms between family, school and society in educating morality, personality and the system of standard values ​​for Vietnamese people.

Promote comprehensive digital transformation, popularize and strongly apply digital technology and artificial intelligence in education and training; develop the national education and human resources information system, connect with the labor market and employment information system and integrate scientific, technological and innovation information of educational institutions.

Modernize vocational education, create breakthroughs in developing highly skilled human resources; reorganize and rearrange vocational education institutions to ensure they are streamlined, efficient, meet national standards and reach international standards.

Modernize and improve higher education, create breakthroughs in developing highly qualified human resources and talents, lead research and innovation. Implement the arrangement and restructuring of higher education institutions; merge and dissolve substandard higher education institutions; resolutely eliminate intermediate levels, ensure streamlined, unified and effective management. Invest in modernizing technical infrastructure, expand development space for higher education institutions to operate effectively; strongly innovate training programs according to international standards.

Continue to promote cooperation and deep international integration in education and training. Promote negotiations and signing of agreements and treaties on cooperation in education, training, science and technology; proactively participate in organizations to ensure quality and develop international education.

Strive to achieve the goal of Vietnam having a modern, equitable and high-quality national education system, ranking among the top 20 countries in the world by 2045.

President Luong Cuong also sent his best wishes to students to continue promoting the nation's tradition of studiousness, striving to study and train to become future masters, building a rich and prosperous Vietnam.

Never before have teachers been cared for as they are today.

In his opening speech, Minister of Education and Training Nguyen Kim Son said that over the past 5 years at the general education level, the education sector has completed the implementation cycle of the new general education program 2018, in which there has been a strong shift from knowledge-based education to developing learners' capacity. In excellent student competitions, especially in international Olympic competitions, Vietnam has maintained its position in the top 10 countries with the best exam results worldwide. There are teams, groups, and subjects that have reached the top 5 and top 3 countries with the best exam results in the world.

Higher education has also made progress, many universities have been present in prestigious ranking groups in the world. Vietnam's vocational education has been integrating more and more deeply and widely in the region and the world through organizing and participating in national vocational skills competitions, ASEAN and world vocational skills competitions with increasingly high scale and results.

The Party and the State pay special attention to policies for teachers. Many policy mechanisms have been established, especially the Law on Teachers passed by the National Assembly, in which the development of the teaching staff is the focus and goal. The teaching staff has become more confident, excited and committed to the profession.

“It is encouraging that more candidates are applying to pedagogical majors and the scores for admission to pedagogical colleges are among the highest, as in recent years. This is a positive change in the depth of developing the teaching force, towards the future of the industry and the country,” he said.

According to the Minister: "Never before has the education and training sector had such a position, been given such a mission and been cared for as it is today." Teachers are considered the driving force for educational development and the decisive factor in the quality of education.

He asked the teaching staff to strive to cultivate, practice, and study continuously to always be a bright example for students to follow, bright enough to shine and guide students, valuable enough to inspire and convince, especially exemplary in personality, spirit of learning and creativity, love and justice. With the good tradition and with the efforts that teachers have made, I deeply believe that we will do those things well.

On this occasion, Minister of Education and Training Nguyen Kim Son decided to award Emulation Flags to 11 groups and Certificates of Merit to 141 groups and 174 individuals with outstanding achievements in the emulation movement "Innovation and creativity in management, teaching and learning" for the period 2020-2025.
