During the official visit to the Republic of Austria, on the afternoon of July 23, local time, in Vienna,President Vo Van Thuong and his wife, along with the high-ranking Vietnamese delegation, had a friendly meeting with representatives of the Vietnamese community in Austria and representatives of the Union of Vietnamese Associations in Europe.

At the meeting, Vietnamese Ambassador to Austria Nguyen Trung Kien briefly reported on the situation of the Embassy, ​​the Vietnamese community in Austria and Europe.

Representatives of the Vietnamese community in Austria and Europe expressed their joy at receiving the President and his wife’s visit and encouragement. At the same time, they briefly reported on the positive results in the activities of the association, union and Vietnamese community in recent times.

Delighted with the country's strong development and increasingly high international position and prestige, overseas Vietnamese all affirm that they always turn towards their homeland and country and wish to contribute to the country's development.

In order to contribute to promoting and exchanging culture, language, and the image of the country and people of Vietnam in Austria in particular and in Europe in general, the Vietnamese Women's Association in Austria has made recommendations, including supporting online teaching and learning of Vietnamese.

Overseas Vietnamese also requested the State to support the organization of activities to promote Vietnamese culture and history abroad, especially supporting the organization of the Global National Ancestor Day, therebyeducating the young generation of Vietnamese people to understand and preserve and promote the cultural values ​​of the nation's roots; organizing exchange activities between the young generation in the country and the young generation of Vietnamese people abroad such as Summer Camps in Austria and Europe.

On this occasion, community representatives also made recommendations on issues of nationality, passports and other administrative procedures.

Expressing his emotion when meeting a large number of overseas Vietnamese in a warm and friendly atmosphere, the President emphasized that over the past 50 years, the Vietnam-Austria friendship and cooperation have been developing positively and effectively in many fields. Informing the people about the domestic situation, the President stated that in recent times, although the world and regional situation has been complicated and unpredictable, with the efforts of the entire Party, the entire people, and the support of international friends, our country has achieved many important achievements.

This visit to Austria aims to evaluate the results achieved between the two countries in recent times; propose solutions to promote bilateral cooperation in the coming time. The President believes that the two countries have gone through 50 years of good cooperation and look forward to a brighter 50 years ahead.

Informing that the Politburo has issued Conclusion No. 12-KL/TW on the work of overseas Vietnamese in the new situation with many profound contents, the President affirmed that overseas Vietnamese are an inseparable part of the great national unity bloc. That also demonstrates the sentiment and responsibility of the Party and State in taking care of the overseas Vietnamese community more comprehensively and strongly; meeting the aspirations and wishes of our compatriots abroad. The achievements in building and developing the country in recent years have had important contributions from the overseas Vietnamese community, including the Vietnamese community in the Republic of Austria.

The President was pleased to know that although the Vietnamese community in Austria is not large with about 6,000 people, it always strives to promote the tradition of mutual love, solidarity, and helping each other to integrate into the local socio-economic life, which is highly appreciated by the local government.

Appreciating the sentiments and positive contributions of the Vietnamese people in recent times to activities towards the homeland, especially activities to support compatriots in flood-hit areas and prevent the Covid-19 pandemic in the country, the President highly appreciated the Vietnamese community in Europe for organizing many associations according to the regional model such as the Union of Vietnamese Associations, the Union of Youth and Student Associations, the Union of Business Associations and the upcoming Congress to establish the Union of Vietnamese Women's Associations throughout Europe.

On this occasion, the President requested that Vietnamese representative agencies in European countries continue to pay attention to and connect with overseas Vietnamese; help build a united and developed Vietnamese community in Europe, always looking towards the homeland and the country. Timely grasp the thoughts, aspirations and recommendations of the people to have proposals and solutions for domestic leaders.

In his message to overseas Vietnamese in Austria and Europe, the President hoped that they would comply with the law, integrate into the local community, work hard, improve their economic life, and increasingly have a high role and position in the local society. Along with that, there would be efforts to preserve and honor the Vietnamese language and Vietnamese cultural traditions; unite, join hands to build a strong and developing community.

The President also suggested that overseas Vietnamese pay more attention to developing the next generation of young people, promoting collective intelligence, and carrying out many practical activities to build an increasingly united and strong community.

The President hopes that the Vietnamese community in Austria and Europe will continue to have practical activities, unite and help each other improve their lives; continue to integrate well into the community, develop investment and business activities, and improve their legal status in the host country. In particular, the Vietnamese community in Austria needs to preserve and promote the nation's cultural traditions, including maintaining and expanding Vietnamese language teaching and learning activities. The President supports the initiative of an online Vietnamese language teaching program and requests the leaders of the Ministry of Education and Training to study and apply it.

The President also suggested that associations and unions be organized with increasingly tight and effective activities, always being a trustworthy organization for overseas Vietnamese. Among them, many cultural and sports exchange activities should be organized. The President hopes that when conditions permit, the people will return to visit their homeland and invest in business.

Having just met with Vietnamese ambassadors in Europe, the President asked embassies to pay special attention to the Vietnamese community in Europe.

Sharing some concerns and suggestions of overseas Vietnamese, the President acknowledged and will assign relevant agencies to study and propose solutions.

On the same day, the President visited the staff of the Vietnamese Embassy in Austria and visited the Vienna Museum of Art History, Austria. This museum was built and inaugurated in the late 19th century, owning many valuable collections of important significance in the history, culture and art of Europe and the world; especially masterpieces by talented European painters of the 18th century. Every year, the museum welcomes millions of visitors. The museum has also built online collections and deployed 3D tour programs on digital platforms.
