The President expressed his confidence that former Youth Volunteers would be "the revolutionary force that sustains the older generation of youth, and at the same time, the one responsible for guiding the future generation of youth."

To commemorate the 74th anniversary of the Traditional Day of the Vietnamese Youth Volunteer Force (July 15, 1950 - July 15, 2024), on the afternoon of July 15, at the Presidential Palace, President To Lam held a cordial meeting with the delegation attending the National Conference of Cadres of the Association of Former Vietnamese Youth Volunteers.
The meeting expressed the profound gratitude, concern, and respect of the Party and State leaders for the people and soldiers in the cause of national liberation and the building and protection of the Fatherland; the historical witnesses who had faced life and death, who had dedicated their youth to serving the front lines during the difficult periods of the glorious and proud resistance wars of the Vietnamese nation.
According to a report by Vu Trong Kim, Chairman of the Vietnam Association of Former Youth Volunteers, there are currently more than 650,000 former youth volunteers nationwide who participated in the struggles for national independence in the past, as well as in the later stages of national reconstruction.
Over the past period, the Association has organized many practical activities to support former Youth Volunteers, including mobilizing members and society to donate 1,107 houses of gratitude, repairing 509 houses; and mobilizing donations of gifts and other items such as savings accounts, bicycles, food, clothing, and school supplies worth over 269 billion VND.
In particular, members helped each other during the COVID-19 pandemic with over 2 billion VND and many other donations. Currently, the Central Committee of the Association is implementing one campaign and two major movements: "Former Youth Volunteers setting a shining example in following the thoughts, ethics, and style of Ho Chi Minh"; the movement "Former Youth Volunteers excelling in economic activities for the sake of camaraderie" and the movement "For the sake of camaraderie, each cadre and member does many good deeds."
For the past 74 years, generations of Youth Volunteers have dedicated themselves, made sacrifices, and forged the glorious tradition of the Youth Volunteers and generations of Vietnamese people; volunteering to do whatever the country needs them to do, going wherever the country needs them; remaining loyal to the revolutionary cause, living for the camaraderie of their comrades; always proactive, creative, and determined to complete their tasks; ready to sacrifice themselves in war, and always at the forefront, innovative, and pioneering in peacetime.
On behalf of the Vietnam Association of Former Youth Volunteers, Mr. Vu Trong Kim proposed to the President several issues, including: the State researching and issuing appropriate regulations to apply to Youth Volunteers who no longer have original documents, so that they can be recognized and receive relevant policies; promptly considering increasing the regular allowance for lonely and homeless Youth Volunteers; considering recognizing them as martyrs; paying attention to preserving and restoring "Red Addresses of Youth Volunteers"; and other mechanisms and policies...

Speaking at the meeting, President To Lam expressed his emotion at meeting 150 representatives of the generations of Vietnamese Youth Volunteers and conveyed the best wishes and greetings of General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong to all members of the Association of Former Youth Volunteers; he also hoped to continue to strongly spread the spirit of Youth Volunteers in the cause of building the Vietnamese Fatherland in the new era.
The President pointed out that the history of the birth and development of the Vietnamese Youth Volunteer Force is closely linked to the glorious, proud, and heroic resistance wars of the Party and the nation; founded by President Ho Chi Minh and trained under the leadership of the Party, the Youth Volunteer Force has highly demonstrated patriotism and indomitable traditions, following the banner of the Party and President Ho Chi Minh.
Recalling the glorious achievements and immense contributions throughout the period of the struggle for national independence in the past, as well as in the period of national construction afterwards, the President emphasized that the Youth Volunteer Force is a shining symbol of revolutionary heroism and of the younger generation, the quintessential spirit of the Vietnamese nation; it will forever be a source of pride for Vietnamese youth.
Emphasizing that the Party, the State, and the people will forever remember and be grateful for the great contributions of the Youth Volunteer Force, the President expressed his pleasure that the Vietnam Association of Former Youth Volunteers, during its term, had organized many programs, campaigns, and meaningful activities, setting a leading example in implementing the Party and State's policies and guidelines.
Simultaneously, they advise, propose, and coordinate with all levels and sectors to promote the resolution of policies for former Youth Volunteers; propagate and educate on traditions; implement activities demonstrating camaraderie and mutual support, search for and collect the remains of martyrs, help each other in economic development, alleviate poverty, and participate in activities to restore and develop socio-economic conditions after the COVID-19 pandemic.
Agreeing with the proposals and recommendations of the Association's leaders, the President stated that, in addition to the very positive results achieved by the Association, many difficulties and obstacles still exist in resolving policies for former Youth Volunteers, and these are major concerns and anxieties of the Party, the State, and the people, requiring joint efforts to resolve them at all levels and sectors.

Looking forward to the 5th National Congress of the Association of Former Youth Volunteers, the President expressed his hope that the Central Committee of the Association would remember and strive to fulfill President Ho Chi Minh's last wish: "For those who bravely sacrificed a part of their blood and lives, the Party, the Government, and the people must find every way to provide them with stable housing and living conditions, and at the same time, open vocational training classes suitable for each person so that they can gradually become self-reliant."
The President suggested that more practical activities should be implemented to promptly resolve outstanding issues in the work related to former Youth Volunteers, considering it a duty, responsibility, and also an expression of deep gratitude and appreciation for those who dedicated and sacrificed themselves for the cause of national liberation, reunification, and the building and protection of the Fatherland.
The President requested that ministries, departments, and agencies, especially the Ho Chi Minh Communist Youth Union, continue to research and propose creative applications of Ho Chi Minh's thought on the Great School of Youth Volunteers, building a team of cadres and a generation of Vietnamese youth who are rich in patriotism, self-reliance, and national pride; possessing firm political acumen, pure revolutionary ethics, the capacity and fortitude to integrate internationally, and great dreams and aspirations.
In addition, the President stated that it is necessary to continue to gather, unite, and build a strong Association and force of former Youth Volunteers nationwide, actively and effectively participating in the cause of renovation, construction, and defense of the Fatherland; at the same time, attention should be paid to discovering, developing, restoring, and preserving historical sites and relics related to the Youth Volunteers, so that these places truly become "red addresses" for educating about revolutionary traditions.
The President expressed his firm belief that, upholding their heroic traditions and noble nature, the former Youth Volunteers will always demonstrate self-reliance, self-improvement, and solidarity, effectively implementing the "comradeship and solidarity" movement and other meaningful movements and activities, truly acting as "reinforcers of the revolution for the older generation of youth, and at the same time, those responsible for guiding the future generation of youth," continuing to make worthy contributions to the cause of building and defending the socialist Fatherland, and forever remaining shining examples for generations of young people to follow.
On this occasion, the President presented the Association with a meaningful gift: a photograph of President Ho Chi Minh with the Youth Volunteers, along with 200 million VND to help the Association prepare uniforms for delegates attending the 5th National Congress of the Vietnam Former Youth Volunteers Association.
