Stocks continue to fall after a nearly 100-point crash, accounts "evaporate" every hour

At the end of the trading session on the morning of October 21, VN-Index fell another 6 points, temporarily stopping at 1,630 points. This was the third consecutive decline of this index, with a total of more than 135 points, erasing the results of the previous 2 weeks.

At the beginning of the morning session, when trading just opened, VN-Index had a strong recovery of 25 points to around 1,664 points. However, selling pressure caused the market to go down immediately after that, many stocks continued to be in the red.

Liquidity exploded compared to the previous session when the transaction value on the HoSE reached nearly VND28,000 billion. The highlight was that foreign investors unexpectedly returned to net buying nearly VND1,700 billion, just in the morning session - after many consecutive days of net selling.

According to the reporter of Nguoi Lao Dong Newspaper, VN-Index only decreased by nearly 6 points but more than half of the market was in red, many stocks decreased sharply from 3-7%.

One of the stocks that went against the trend and increased strongly this morning is TCX of Techcom Securities Corporation (TCBS, code: TCX). This is the first trading session of this stock code on the HoSE floor.

At the end of the morning session, TCX shares increased 5.98% compared to the reference price when they were listed on the stock exchange to 49,600 VND/share. The pressure of the general market prevented TCX shares from exploding to the full amplitude of 20% on the first day of listing.

On forums, investors are worried and are turning off their apps when their trading results after a month have evaporated after only 2-3 trading sessions. Many investors are suffering heavy losses, and some are even worried that they may be called on margin (required to deposit more money due to a negative balance in their account portfolio).

Ms. Thanh Hai (an investor in Ho Chi Minh City) said that she has been buying stocks like FTS and HCM for about a month now. After the official announcement of the market upgrade, she expected that these stocks would benefit in the long term. However, up to now, both stocks are losing 10-20%.

"I don't use margin loans so I can still bear it, but many investors in the group are worried about being forced to sell if the market continues to go down. My friends bought bank and real estate stocks, and yesterday someone even bought NVL stocks at the bottom, which have now continued to hit the floor," said Ms. Thanh Hai.

Investors are also wondering how the market will fluctuate after the nearly 95-point crash on October 20.

Mr. Nguyen The Minh, Director of Individual Client Analysis, Yuanta Vietnam Securities Company, said that in history since 2014, the general index has had 11 times with a decrease of over 5%.

"After the sharp drop of over 5% in the general index, the market can quickly regain its growth momentum in the short term, even extending the growth momentum in the medium term. Domestic institutional capital has maintained a net buying streak throughout the past period since July 2025 until now and this is also the main cash flow for the uptrend in the past time" - Mr. The Minh said.
