Series of activities celebrating the 80th anniversary of Vietnam's National Day in Mozambique

Ambassador Tran Thi Thu Thin informed about the country's development achievements in all aspects after 80 years of independence, 50 years of national reunification and nearly 40 years of Renovation.

On the occasion of the 80th anniversary of the August Revolution and National Day of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam and the 50th anniversary of the establishment of Vietnam-Mozambique diplomatic relations (June 25, 1975 - June 25, 2025), on September 10, at Maputo City Hall, the Vietnamese Embassy in Mozambique solemnly organized a series of commemorative activities.

The program was attended by Mr. Roberto Mito Albino, Minister of Agriculture , Environment and Fisheries of Mozambique, representing the Government of Mozambique; Mr. Rasaque Manhique, Mayor of Maputo City; Ms. Ludmila Maguni, Secretary of the Central Executive Committee of the Mozambique Liberation Front in charge of foreign affairs, and more than 350 guests including representatives of the leadership of the National Assembly of Mozambique, the Mozambique Liberation Front, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation of Mozambique and relevant ministries and branches.

Also attending the event were Ambassadors, Chargé d'Affaires, representatives of the diplomatic corps in Maputo; representatives of departments and branches of Maputo city, representatives of economic agencies, investment promotion and trade of the locality, businesses, experts, scholars and friends of Mozambique; Vietnamese experts and businesses and a large number of Vietnamese people living and working in Mozambique.

Speaking at the ceremony, Vietnamese Ambassador to Mozambique Tran Thi Thu Thin informed about the country's achievements in all aspects of development after 80 years of independence, 50 years of national reunification and nearly 40 years of Doi Moi, as well as Vietnam's goals and aspirations in the new era, to become a developing country with modern industry and high middle income by 2030 and to become a developed, high-income country with socialist orientation by 2045.

The Ambassador stressed that this year's celebration is especially meaningful because the event is held at the City Hall, right in the heart of the capital Maputo, on Independence Square, a symbol of the will to freedom and resilience of the Mozambican people.

Located right next to Independence Square is Ho Chi Minh Avenue, a street named after the beloved leader of the Vietnamese people. President Ho Chi Minh's ideals of independence and self-determination not only inspired the Vietnamese people, but also freedom-loving peoples around the world, including Mozambique.

According to Ambassador Tran Thi Thu Thin, despite the geographical distance, Vietnam and Mozambique share many common values, namely love of freedom, determination to protect sovereignty and solidarity, supporting each other in the cause of building, protecting and developing the country. Mozambique has always been a close friend and a priority partner of Vietnam in Africa.

The two countries have achieved positive results in cooperation in many fields, from politics and diplomacy to economics, telecommunications, agriculture, health and education.

Cooperation projects between Vietnam and Mozambique, such as the Movitel joint venture, tripartite agricultural cooperation programs and the activities of Vietnamese medical and educational experts in Mozambique over the years, are vivid examples of a sustainable, effective and long-term partnership.

The Ambassador expressed his belief that, based on bilateral advantages, potential, demand and the solid foundation of the Vietnam-Mozambique relationship, together with the determination and joint efforts of the two Parties, Governments and peoples, political, economic, trade, investment and people-to-people cooperation between Vietnam and Mozambique will continue to achieve new successes. Vietnam pledges to continue to be a reliable partner, ready to share experiences and cooperate with Mozambique in the process of national development and construction.

Minister of Agriculture, Environment and Fisheries of Mozambique Roberto Mito Albino expressed his pleasure to represent the Government of Mozambique to attend the Celebration and sent warm congratulations to the Government and people of Vietnam on the occasion of the 80th anniversary of National Day.

Minister Roberto Mito Albino affirmed: “The ideals, perseverance and endurance of the Vietnamese people in the struggle for independence and freedom have inspired people all over the world to not only support Vietnam's cause but above all to support the cause of independence and freedom, against colonial and imperialist domination, which is a prerequisite for the economic and social development of the world's people.”

Highly appreciating the Vietnam-Mozambique relationship over the past half century, Minister Roberto Mito Albino affirmed that the good relationship was nurtured on the basis of the principles of friendship, solidarity and cooperation, right from the early days of the armed struggle to liberate Mozambique.

Reviewing the major milestones in bilateral relations, Minister Roberto Mito Albino affirmed that political and diplomatic relations have been continuously strengthened, serving as a foundation to promote other areas of cooperation such as agriculture and food security, education and training, mineral resources, telecommunications, fisheries and aquaculture, trade, security and technical assistance in other development areas.

Minister Roberto Mito Albino said the Mozambican Government recognized the success of Movitel in Mozambique as a testament to bilateral investment and telecommunications cooperation, and wished to continue replicating similar cooperation models in other fields such as agriculture, infrastructure, energy, tourism, agricultural processing, etc.

On behalf of the Government of Mozambique, Minister Roberto Mito Albino reaffirmed Mozambique's commitment to continuing to develop and deepen the friendship, brotherhood, solidarity and cooperation towards sustainable development between Vietnam and Mozambique.

Within the framework of the program, local and international friends have the opportunity to visit the photo exhibition on Vietnam's development achievements after 80 years of independence as well as important milestones of Vietnam-Mozambique bilateral relations over the past 50 years.

From black and white memories to colorful photo frames, guests attending the Celebration understood more clearly about Vietnam's journey and aspirations as well as the friendship and spirit of close cooperation between Vietnam and Mozambique.

The program also included a cultural exchange and a performance of traditional costumes of Vietnam and Mozambique.

In the joyful atmosphere of the important anniversary, Mozambican artists with the powerful Xigubo dance and the pounding drums recreated the image of Mozambican warriors who were steadfast and brave. The attendees also enjoyed the cheerful rhythm of Mozambican folk songs through the performance of the tilimba artist.

The highlight of the art exchange night was the impressive fashion show performed by students of Joaquim Chissano University and Vietnamese officials working at Movitel company. The image of the Vietnamese Ao Dai fluttering in the wind, showing off its beauty, along with Mozambique’s capulana costume was the highlight of the cultural exchange between the two countries.

The diverse activities within the framework of the Celebration have contributed to introducing and promoting the country's development achievements, bringing the image of the country, culture and people of Vietnam closer to local and international friends, and at the same time propagating the positive results of the Vietnam-Mozambique bilateral friendship and cooperation over the past 5 decades, thereby affirming the determination and efforts to expand and promote bilateral relations in the coming time.
