Timely nursing support will reduce the risk of conflict
The Nursing 2025 Scientific Conference was organized by Phenikaa University Hospital (PhenikaaMec) on October 18, in Hanoi.
Regarding the role of nurses in treating and caring for patients, Associate Professor, Dr. Nguyen Thanh Hoi, General Director of Phenikaa University Hospital, said that nurses play a very important role in the process of caring for and treating patients. They welcome, guide, assist in medical examination, carry out medical orders, provide post-operative care, handle procedures and answer patients' concerns.

Associate Professor Hoi acknowledged that nurses are the ones who spend more time with patients than doctors. They welcome, guide, assist in medical examination, carry out medical orders, provide post-operative care, handle procedures and answer patients' concerns. Therefore, patients' problems and dissatisfaction are often due to not having their questions answered promptly or not receiving adequate care.
Every hospital requires nurses to have good expertise. 55 basic nursing procedures as well as advanced nursing procedures must be mastered. Not only expertise is required, the nurse's communication skills must be good.
According to Mr. Hoi, when nurses have good expertise, communicate gently, are attentive and cover patients' needs, the risk of conflicts in the hospital will be reduced. Because conflicts in the hospital often occur when patients have certain wishes but there are no medical staff or nurses to respond.
Reduce workload and improve nursing quality
According to the Ministry of Health , in Vietnam, the number of nurses/doctors is very low. In the world, a doctor has 3-4 nurses, but in Vietnam, a doctor has less than 2 nurses.
The Ministry of Health stipulates that medical staff ranges from 0.9 to 1.6 per hospital bed. In inpatient departments, the ratio of medical staff is about 0.5 per hospital bed. That is, if a department has 30 beds, there are 15 medical staff, including doctors and nurses.
Sharing at the conference, some opinions said that private hospitals often arrange more staff than the general regulations. For example, Phenikaa University Hospital, the current staffing ratio is 3 (3 staff/bed). With 300 beds licensed by the Ministry of Health, the total staff is currently 1,050.
At the conference, reporters from Viet Duc Friendship Hospital, Central Endocrinology Hospital, K Hospital, PhenikaaMec, major medical and pharmaceutical schools in the country and experts from the US, Thailand... discussed training and improving the quality of nursing human resources.
According to Dr. Hoi, the conference demonstrates the spirit of trust, so that each nurse is not only a patient caregiver, but also a researcher, educator, and creator of new standards in healthcare.
