Coming to Vietnam for the first time, Michelin Guide not only marked an important milestone in the culinary industry but also contributed to promoting the tourism industry. The fact that restaurants were awarded Michelin stars - the most prestigious award in the world culinary community - is an opportunity to widely promote the image of Vietnam to the world.
Promote tourism
Mr. Nguyen Trung Khanh - General Director of Vietnam National Administration of Tourism - said that Michelin has become one of the leading brands and is present in most major tourist centers in the world. Many tourists tend to enjoy meals at famous restaurants and Michelin-starred restaurants are among them. Michelin Guide will be a huge turning point for all restaurants in Vietnam, creating a brand to welcome tourists, especially international visitors.
According to Mr. Nguyen Trung Khanh, based on the list of Michelin Guides announced, the General Department of Tourism will plan to promote, roadshow, international fairs, and special programs to promote Vietnamese culinary culture. In particular, Michelin restaurants will be introduced in target markets for tourists to know and come to enjoy and experience.
According to the Hanoi Department of Tourism, the presence of Michelin restaurants is good news for the capital's tourism industry. This will be a driving force for restaurants and eateries to standardize their service style, ensure food safety and hygiene, be creative in their cooking methods and create a unique space to bring many experiences to diners. In addition, when prestigious chefs and restaurants of Hanoi appear on the world culinary map, they will create unique culinary tourism products for domestic and international tourists when coming to Hanoi.
Michelin-starred restaurants will elevate Hanoi cuisine in particular and Vietnamese cuisine in general on the world culinary tourism map.
In the coming time, the Hanoi Department of Tourism will promote the Michelin-starred restaurant system alongside other prestigious restaurants and eateries in Hanoi in propaganda and promotion programs for Hanoi tourism on media, social networks, and domestic and international tourism promotion events.
In parallel, the Department of Tourism has a policy of building a food tour map so that tourists can explore and experience local cuisine on their own.
Vietnam will be the center of attention on the world culinary map.
Mr. Gwendal Poullennec - International Director of Michelin Guide affirmed that Vietnam has many strengths to develop its cuisine. The published list is just the first step to raise awareness of restaurants and food establishments in Vietnam about Michelin Guide. The guide will contribute to helping Vietnamese cuisine to be named on the world culinary map, thereby attracting more foreign visitors.
Ms. Nguyen Vu Quynh Anh - General Director of Sun Hospitality - said: "From the list announced by Michelin today, the world's new culinary destination named Vietnam will be spread to global tourists. The foundation for the new development of not only the culinary industry, but also the Vietnamese tourism industry in general, will also be built and developed."
Following the announcement of the Michelin Guide in Vietnam, Michelin-starred restaurants in Ho Chi Minh City and Hanoi also witnessed a strong growth in the number of table reservations, including both domestic and international diners.
Mr. Peter Cuong Franklin - Head Chef of Anan Saigon restaurant - the only restaurant with 1 Michelin star in Ho Chi Minh City - said: "Besides Vietnamese customers, we also receive many booking calls from foreign diners such as: Thailand, Singapore, Malaysia... In the near future, the restaurant plans to recruit more waiters and kitchen staff to meet the needs of diners".
For the first time, Vietnam has been listed with Michelin restaurants. Mr. Nguyen Xuan Quynh - General Secretary of the Vietnam Chefs Association - assessed that the potential of Vietnamese cuisine is still very large.
“I think this is just the first step. In the future, it is obvious that Michelin-starred restaurants will be extremely crowded and have to wait in line. And keeping it is also a story because if you get a star, you can also take it down,” Mr. Quynh said.
