Announcing the first paperless, fully digitalized smart hospital in Vietnam

On October 4, Bach Mai Hospital officially announced the deployment of the paperless, smart hospital-school management system and launched the Bach Mai Care application with integrated authentication and digital signature via VNeID.

On this occasion, Bach Mai Hospital received the Government's Emulation Flag and the Ministry of Health 's Certificate of Merit; opening the 2025-2026 school year of Bach Mai Medical College.

Speaking at the announcement ceremony, Associate Professor, Dr. Dao Xuan Co, Director of Bach Mai Hospital, said that among the hospital's six strategic pillars, digital transformation is the leading pillar, along with multi-organ transplantation, robotic surgery, stem cells, gene therapy and 3D printing applications in medicine .

"Bach Mai Hospital is one of the pioneers in implementing Project 06 of the Government. The hospital has always received support and companionship from the specialized force of the Ministry of Public Security to effectively implement digital transformation in the recent period," Associate Professor, Dr. Dao Xuan Co expressed.

Bach Mai Hospital officially announced the deployment of the paperless, comprehensive smart hospital management system and the Bach Mai Care application integrating authentication and digital signature via VNeID. The integration of VNeID is not only an administrative utility but also a key premise, creating a safe and legal electronic identification and authentication mechanism for all medical records.

This is a strategic step towards the implementation of the national Electronic Health Record (EMR), a key task of the Ministry of Health. In this way, Bach Mai is creating standardized data, ready for the connection and exchange of medical examination and treatment data between medical facilities nationwide.

According to the Director of Bach Mai Hospital, the implementation of the Paperless Management System brings profound dual benefits, demonstrates Bach Mai Hospital's commitment to patients and is especially effective in hospital management in the current period.

Delegates pressed the button to announce the paperless, fully intelligent hospital and school management system, authenticated and digitally signed on the Bach Mai Care App via VNeID.

"Patients can proactively search for information, register for examination and pay quickly and conveniently through smart medical kiosks, significantly reducing pressure and congestion at the reception area. Cashless payment services have been extended to the hospital bed. The conversion from paper medical records to electronic medical records has helped Bach Mai Hospital save an estimated 100 billion VND per year," said Associate Professor, Dr. Dao Xuan Co.

Speaking at the ceremony, Minister of Health Dao Hong Lan affirmed that over the past 100 years, Bach Mai Hospital has become a symbol of Vietnamese medicine, a place where the intelligence, courage and compassionate hearts of many generations of doctors converge. With strong steps in digital transformation, Bach Mai Hospital continues to play a pioneering role, realizing the spirit of Resolution 57 and Resolution 72 of the Politburo on innovation and modernization of the health sector.

Minister Dao Hong Lan said that Bach Mai Hospital is the first special-class hospital of the Ministry of Health to deploy full electronic medical records from November 1, 2024, reducing procedures and improving treatment efficiency.

The hospital has researched and developed the Bach Mai Care application, which helps people manage their own health care. This is the first hospital application that uses digital signatures and authentication via VneID. This application also received the Creative Labor Award from the Vietnam Labor Confederation.

The hospital has researched and built artificial intelligence software to detect lung cancer early, opening up the opportunity for complete treatment and saving the patient's life.

Minister Dao Hong Lan also emphasized 5 key tasks that Bach Mai Hospital needs to carry out: Maintaining its position as the leading medical center in the country; strengthening scientific research, especially in the field of digital transformation; training high-quality medical human resources; providing technical support to lower levels to reduce the load on central hospitals; putting the second facility in Ninh Binh into effective operation and from the beginning integrating the "smart hospital" model - a pilot model to replicate nationwide.

After the announcement ceremony, Bach Mai Hospital held the opening ceremony of the 2025-2026 school year of Bach Mai Medical College.
