Average CPI in 8 months in Hanoi increased by 3.37%

The Consumer Price Index (CPI) in August 2025 increased by 0.22% over the previous month, by 2.35% over December 2024 and by 3.98% over the same period last year. The average CPI in the first 8 months of this year increased by 3.37% over the average in the same period in 2024.

This information was recently released by the Hanoi City Statistics Department in its report on the socio -economic situation for August and the first eight months of 2025.

In August, all 11 CPI groups increased compared to the previous month; in particular, the culture, entertainment, and tourism group increased by 0.6% (contributing 0.03% to the overall CPI increase) because the city hosted a series of activities commemorating the 80th anniversary of the August Revolution and National Day on September 2nd, attracting a large number of visitors and leading to higher prices for cultural, entertainment, and tourism services.

This also explains why the food and beverage group increased by 0.41% (contributing to a 0.13% increase in the overall CPI), mainly due to a 0.54% increase in eating out and a 0.41% increase in food prices.

The education group increased by 0.21% (contributing 0.02% to the overall CPI increase) due to students preparing for the new school year, leading to increased educational expenses.

On average, in the first 8 months of 2025, CPI increased by 3.37% compared to the same period last year, in which 8/11 commodity groups had average CPI increases.

The group of medicines and medical services increased by 14.99% (contributing 0.76% to the overall CPI increase) due to the adjustment of new prices for medical examination and treatment services at hospitals in the city.

The housing, electricity, water, fuel, and building materials group increased by 8.19% (contributing to a 1.67% increase in the CPI), with rental prices rising by 10.91%; electricity prices by 6.63%; and clean water prices by 3.16%.

The culture, entertainment, and tourism group increased by 4.03% (contributing to a 0.19% increase in the CPI).

The food and beverage group increased by 2.82% (contributing to a 0.88% increase in the CPI). Within this group, eating out increased by 4.4%; food prices increased by 3.68%; and other food items increased by 2.11%.

The garment, hat and footwear group increased by 1.98% (causing the CPI to increase by 0.11%).

The beverages and tobacco group increased by 1.69% (contributing to a 0.03% increase in the CPI).

Household equipment and appliances group increased by 0.9% (causing CPI to increase by 0.06%).

The group of other goods and services increased by 4.58% (contributing 0.16% to the CPI increase), mainly due to a 49.87% increase in jewelry prices and a 21.74% increase in health insurance service prices.

3 out of 11 commodity groups saw a decrease in the average CPI for the first 8 months of 2025, including transportation (down 2.89%, contributing to a 0.28% decrease in CPI); education (down 1.22%, contributing to a 0.1% decrease in CPI); and postal and telecommunications services (down 0.74%, contributing to a 0.02% decrease in CPI).

The gold price index in August increased by 1.34% compared to the previous month, by 41.98% compared to December 2024, and by 54.68% compared to the same period last year. On average for the first eight months of 2025, the gold price index increased by 47.59% compared to the average for the same period in 2024.

Also in August, the US dollar price index increased by 0.42% compared to the previous month, by 3.67% compared to December 2024, and by 4.32% compared to the same period last year. On average for the first eight months of 2025, the US dollar price index increased by 3.47% compared to the average for the same period in 2024.
