Average CPI in 8 months in Hanoi increased by 3.37%

The Consumer Price Index (CPI) in August 2025 increased by 0.22% over the previous month, by 2.35% over December 2024 and by 3.98% over the same period last year. The average CPI in the first 8 months of this year increased by 3.37% over the average in the same period in 2024.

The above information has just been announced by Hanoi City Statistics in the socio -economic situation report for August and the first 8 months of 2025.

In August, all 11 CPI groups increased compared to the previous month; in which the culture, entertainment and tourism group increased by 0.6% (increasing the overall CPI by 0.03%) because during this time the city was the venue for a series of activities celebrating the 80th anniversary of the August Revolution and National Day September 2, attracting a large number of visitors, so the prices of cultural, entertainment and tourism services increased.

This is also the reason why the food and catering services group increased by 0.41% (increasing the overall CPI by 0.13%), mainly due to eating out increased by 0.54% and food prices increased by 0.41%.

The education group increased by 0.21% (increasing the overall CPI by 0.02%) because students were preparing to enter the new school year, so the cost of education activities increased.

On average, in the first 8 months of 2025, CPI increased by 3.37% compared to the same period last year, in which 8/11 commodity groups had average CPI increases.

The group of medicines and medical services increased by 14.99% (causing the general CPI to increase by 0.76%) because medical examination and treatment services at hospitals in the city will be adjusted to apply new prices.

The housing, electricity, water, fuel and construction materials group increased by 8.19% (causing the CPI to increase by 1.67%), of which rental house prices increased by 10.91%; electricity prices increased by 6.63%; clean water prices increased by 3.16%.

The culture, entertainment and tourism group increased by 4.03% (causing the CPI to increase by 0.19%).

The food and catering services group increased by 2.82% (causing the CPI to increase by 0.88%). Of which, eating out increased by 4.4%; food prices increased by 3.68%; food increased by 2.11%.

The garment, hat and footwear group increased by 1.98% (causing the CPI to increase by 0.11%).

Beverage and tobacco group increased by 1.69% (impacting CPI increase by 0.03%).

Household equipment and appliances group increased by 0.9% (causing CPI to increase by 0.06%).

The group of other goods and services increased by 4.58% (causing the CPI to increase by 0.16%) mainly due to the 49.87% increase in jewelry prices and the 21.74% increase in health insurance service prices.

The average CPI of 3/11 commodity groups in the first 8 months of 2025 decreased, including the transportation group decreased by 2.89% (impacting a 0.28% decrease in CPI); education decreased by 1.22% (impacting a 0.1% decrease in CPI); post and telecommunications decreased by 0.74% (impacting a 0.02% decrease in CPI).

The gold price index in August increased by 1.34% compared to the previous month, by 41.98% compared to December 2024 and by 54.68% compared to the same period last year. On average, in the first 8 months of 2025, the gold price index increased by 47.59% compared to the average of the same period in 2024.

Also in August, the US dollar price index increased by 0.42% compared to the previous month, increased by 3.67% compared to December 2024 and increased by 4.32% compared to the same period last year. On average, in the first 8 months of 2025, the US dollar price index increased by 3.47% compared to the same period in 2024.
