Shock with Onana

Goalkeeper Andre Onana continues to go through unforgettable days when he was unexpectedly removed from Cameroon's CAN 2025 squad.

Onana was removed from the Cameroon squad.

This shocking decision comes at a time when Onana's career is on the decline, after he lost his starting position at MU and had to move to Trabzonspor on loan since September.

Despite Cameroon calling up four goalkeepers for the tournament that starts on December 21, Onana was left out. Previously, the 29-year-old goalkeeper had been a regular and mainstay of the team for many years.

While Onana was left out, two other notable stars made it into Cameroon's 28-man squad: Bryan Mbeumo (MU) and Carlos Baleba (Brighton). Former Tottenham player and Saudi Arabia-based player Georges-Kevin Nkoudou was also recalled.

The announcement of Cameroon's squad was made all the more remarkable when the president of the Cameroon Football Federation, Samuel Eto'o, decided to fire coach Marc Brys just hours later. David Pagou was appointed as his replacement, with Cameroon having just three weeks to prepare for their opening match against Gabon on December 24. The team then faces Ivory Coast (December 28) and Mozambique (December 31).

For Onana, being excluded from CAN 2025 is a milestone to forget in his career. Having played 53 times for Cameroon, the goalkeeper's future in the national team is becoming uncertain.

Cameroon football is also going through a bad day. On November 14, the country lost 0-1 to the Republic of Congo and lost its ticket to the 2026 World Cup.

Mbeumo was shocked when he lost his ticket to the 2026 World Cup. In the early morning of November 14, Bryan Mbeumo and Andre Onana's Cameroon lost 0-1 to the Republic of Congo in the play-off semi-finals, thereby losing their ticket to the 2026 World Cup.
