The First Secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Cuba andPresident of the Republic of Cuba, Miguel Díaz-Canel Bermudez, presided over the welcoming ceremony. The reception was solemnly held with the highest protocol reserved for heads of state.

In a fraternal atmosphere, First Secretary and President of Cuba Miguel Díaz-Canel Bermudez welcomed General Secretary and President To Lam at the main hall of the Revolution Palace. The two leaders entered the positions of honor and the military band played the national anthems of both countries.

The Captain of the Honour Guard of the Cuban Revolutionary Armed Forces invited the two leaders to inspect the Honour Guard. To the sound of majestic music, General Secretary and President To Lam and First Secretary and President Miguel Díaz-Canel Bermudez saluted the flags of the two countries and the Honour Guard.

After the ceremony of inspecting the Guard of Honor, General Secretary and President To Lam and First Secretary and President of Cuba Miguel Díaz-Canel Bermudez came forward to greet and introduce the official members of the delegations of the two countries present at the welcoming ceremony.

Immediately after the official welcoming ceremony, General Secretary and President To Lam and First Secretary and President of Cuba Miguel Díaz-Canel Bermudez led high-ranking delegations from the two countries to hold talks.

This is an opportunity for the two sides to discuss and evaluate the achievements and cooperation results between Vietnam and Cuba in recent times and propose directions to strengthen and improve the effectiveness of cooperation in all fields, bringing the comprehensive cooperation between Vietnam and Cuba to a new stage, increasingly developing substantially and sustainably, for the benefit of the people of the two countries.

It is expected that after the talks, the two leaders will witness the signing ceremony of cooperation documents between ministries, branches and businesses of the two countries.

The State visit of General Secretary and President To Lam to Cuba has historical and symbolic significance, and opens a new phase in the special cooperation and friendship between the two countries with more practical and sustainable results.

The solidarity and brotherhood between Vietnam and Cuba was founded by President Ho Chi Minh and President Fidel Castro and has been growing ever since.

During the years when the Vietnamese people waged the resistance war for national liberation in the 1960s and 1970s, Cuba was always a symbol and a pioneer in the world people's movement to unite in support of Vietnam's just struggle, giving Vietnam valuable and effective support and assistance.

During the most difficult period of Vietnam's national liberation struggle, the Party, State and people of Cuba always gave Vietnam extremely valuable support and assistance, both spiritually and materially. The Vietnamese people always remember the immortal words of Cuban leader Fidel Castro: "For Vietnam, Cuba is willing to sacrifice its own blood."

For its part, Vietnam has always actively strengthened solidarity and cohesion and strived to promote and improve the effectiveness of comprehensive cooperation between the two Parties and two countries. Leaders of the two Parties and two States have repeatedly emphasized that the relationship between the two countries is a "symbol of the times".

Over the past 60 years, despite many challenges and ups and downs in the world situation, the solidarity and brotherhood between Vietnam and Cuba has been increasingly consolidated and developed, closely linked in many fields.

Today, the Party, State and people of the two countries always attach importance to the traditional solidarity and special friendship between Vietnam and Cuba and continue to nurture and develop it well through all channels. The relationship between the two parties has deepened, playing the role of political foundation, guiding the development of relations between the two countries.

The good political and diplomatic relations between Vietnam and Cuba have created momentum for economic and trade cooperation between the two countries to develop.

Vietnam is currently the second largest trading partner and the largest investment partner in Cuba from the Asia and Oceania region. The two sides continue to implement the Vietnam - Cuba Trade Agreement (signed in 2018, effective from April 1, 2020) with many preferential commitments, bringing benefits to businesses of the two countries and creating favorable conditions for bilateral import and export activities.
