Việt Nam•14/09/2024
The all-new 2024 Mitsubishi Triton, the sixth generation, has officially launched in Vietnam, marking a significant leap forward in chassis design, suspension system, and performance with improved engine capabilities. Notably, the vehicle is equipped with a range of advanced driver assistance technologies, enhancing driver safety on all types of roads. Hiroshi Masuoka, a two-time Dakar Rally champion in 2002 and 2003, took to the stage with the 6th generation Triton, which was launched on September 11, 2024. Following an impressive presentation, he and reporters experienced off-road driving with the 2024 Triton in Dong Mo, Ba Vi, Hanoi . Born in 1960, the driver is now 64 years old, but he still performs maneuvers that demonstrate the class and professionalism of someone who has won the Dakar Rally, the toughest race on the planet, twice in a row.
He said: "I've always felt confident having a great vehicle like the Triton in my hands. This model has now been significantly improved, making off-road driving as easy as driving in the city. The increased diameter front suspension makes jumps smoother, and the sturdy rear suspension gives me peace of mind when steering. Besides the new, lighter, and stiffer chassis platform... I feel the new generation is much more agile, flexible, and robust than before. You should try it."
The all-new 6th generation Triton measures 5,360 mm in length, 1,930 mm in width, and 1,815 mm in height, with a wheelbase increased to 3,130 mm, resulting in a more spacious interior than its predecessor. The Mitsubishi Triton boasts an approach angle of 30.4 degrees, a departure angle of 22.8 degrees, and a ground clearance of 228 mm, ideal for challenging off-road adventures. Combined with a turning radius of just 6.2m, the vehicle is not only powerful on rough terrain but also agile in congested city streets.
The completely new chassis has been radically upgraded with larger dimensions and the use of lightweight, high-strength steel, making the Triton both sturdy and minimizing road noise and vibration. The upgraded front suspension features forks with a 2mm larger diameter and a 20mm increased travel compared to the previous generation. Combined with an optimized rear suspension system featuring shock absorbers and leaf springs, this provides a smooth ride in the city and robust stability when operating on challenging road conditions. The Triton's renowned Super Select 4WD-II system is retained, but now even more powerful with seven driving modes, including: Highway, Economy, Snow, Gravel, Mud, Sand, and Rock. Having multiple driving mode options gives users confidence when tackling off-road terrain. Most notably, it features an electronic center differential lock, one of Mitsubishi's special weapons, and unique to the Triton in the pickup truck segment in Vietnam. According to two-time Darka Rally champion Hiroshi Masuoka, "It was this special weapon, the center differential lock, that helped me win the world's toughest race in 2002-2003. It's fantastic that it's been implemented on the Triton, Pajero Sport..." The top-of-the-line Triton Athlete is also equipped with an electric power steering system, providing a light and precise driving feel. The Japanese automaker shares that with a steering wheel rotation of only 3.3 turns, combined with the smallest turning radius in its segment, maneuvering the vehicle in narrow alleys or crowded streets in major Vietnamese cities becomes extremely easy. The Triton's power comes from a 2.4L MIVEC Bi-Turbo Diesel engine, producing 204 horsepower and a maximum torque of 470 Nm, paired with a 6-speed automatic transmission. The twin-turbocharging technology not only makes the engine powerful and smooth but also increases responsiveness and minimizes acceleration lag, providing an exhilarating driving experience on off-road terrain. Currently, twin-turbocharging technology is also available on the engines of competitors such as the Ford Ranger Wildtrak and Nissan Navara Pro4x. Furthermore, the 6th generation Triton is equipped with a range of advanced safety technologies included in the Mitsubishi Motors Safety Sensing (MMSS) package:
Forward Collision Warning and Mitigation (FCM) system
Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC)
Lane Departure Warning System (LDW)
Automatic High Beam (AHB) system
Blind Spot Warning and Lane Change Assist (BSW & LCA)
Rear Cross Traffic Alert (RCTA) system
In addition, the vehicle is also equipped with several typical safety features such as:
7 airbags
360-degree panoramic camera
Tire pressure monitoring system (TPMS)
Furthermore, Mitsubishi Motors Vietnam confidently offers an extended standard warranty program of up to 5 years or 150,000 km (whichever comes first) for customers purchasing the new generation Triton. The selling prices for the Triton 4WD AT Athlete versions are VND 924 million, VND 782 million, and VND 655 million. Four color options are available depending on the version: black, white, orange, and gray.
