There is a solution to restore My Son relics.

Scientists and archaeologists from Vietnam and abroad have reached important conclusions in finding solutions and materials for the restoration of the My Son relics in Quang Nam province .

In 2003, Vietnam collaborated with UNESCO and Italy on a research project to find the optimal restoration method for the My Son heritage complex. To date, the research project is in its final stages and has identified a restoration method for the tower clusters at My Son. Cluster G is particularly unique in its structure and artistry, situated on a small hill behind clusters B, C, and D, and adjacent to cluster A. The main tower – Kalan – has already been restored, and the second tower, located in front of the main tower, is expected to be fully restored by mid-June.

The conclusions regarding the restoration method are the culmination of 10 years of research and study by a group of archaeologists and architects involved in the My Son heritage site restoration project. Italian architect Mara Landoni stated: “We have found a solution for restoration, using the resin of a type of tree found in nature in the forest near the heritage site and in Gia Rai as a binding material for the bricks. For the bricks, we carefully studied and chose a type that is not exactly Cham brick but is compatible and suitable for the restoration process.” Researchers assess that My Son Sanctuary is a prominent cultural heritage site, containing many mysteries about a glorious period of development of the Cham kingdom. The research team hopes that, upon completion of the restoration work on the My Son complex, more and more secrets about this special temple complex will be gradually revealed. According to the plan, the remaining 3 towers of the G tower group will continue to be restored and completed by September 2013. The experience gained from completing the restoration of tower G will be recorded and further studied for application to the remaining 8 tower groups of My Son Sanctuary. However, in June, tower group G will still be opened early for tourists to visit during the Quang Nam Heritage Festival, which takes place from June 21-26.
